Why I Give
Richard Roberts

"Did you know that Jesus didn't suggest that we give, but He actually commanded us to give? He said, 'Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For with the same measure that you give, it will be given to you again' (see Luke 6:38). So why do I give? I give because

God's Word commands me to give.

I love God with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength.

I have needs that have to be met.

God once faced a huge need. He had lost mankind to satan. And He came up with the plan to plant His only Son as a seed so that His creation would not perish, but they would be saved, healed, delivered and set free from the domination of the devil! John 3:26 says that God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. God gave for a reason—so that mankind could be restored to Him. Just as God gave out of His need for a desired result, He teaches us to plant seed against our needs.

Maybe you're facing a financial loss or a serious illness. Or maybe the devil is attacking your family. If so, this is the time to sow seed. God's Word says, He who sows generously... will also reap generously and with blessings. And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance (II Corinthians 9:6,8 AMP). God wants to meet your needs and multiply your seed back to you abundantly. Give Him the opportunity by planting a seed out of your need and expecting a miracle."

ON DOCTRINE NOTE:
Like many of his other claims, troubling issues remain when Richard Roberts' statements are examined in light of the Scripture. Not the least of the problems is the reality that he misidentifies who had the need in relation to the sin of Adam and Eve and then he states that God's giving of His Son is the same as planting seed against a need. Both assertions are incorrect and represent the twisting of the Scripture in order to support his application of the "Seed Faith" (Giving and Receiving) doctrine that was created by his father, Oral Roberts, in order to provide the financial funding for the Oral Roberts Ministries, of which Richard Roberts is a major part.

First, Richard Roberts insinuates that the fall of Adam and Eve was the fault of God, because He was unable to hold on to His creation in the face of the superior power of Satan, "He had lost mankind to satan."

Not coming right out and saying what he is implying, Richard Roberts adopts the same theology as his associate in mininstry, Kenneth Copeland, who has said: "God is the biggest failure in the Bible. The reason you've never thought that is because He never said He was one".

Second, Richard Roberts misstates the sequence of the implementation of the gospel plan by God, indicating that the plan of salvation was not conceived until after the fall of Adam and Eve because God was apparently caught by surprise and had to scramble around looking for a solution to the problem, "He had lost mankind to satan. And He came up with the plan to plant His only Son as a seed so that His creation would not perish . . ."

The plan of salvation was not God's response to an unforseen situation or to the actions of Adam and Eve or to the action of Satan. God did not loose mankind to an unforseen circumstance and it was not an unforseen circumstance that precipitated an action on the part of God, because the plan of salvation was established prior to the creation of the universe.
"Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.'"
Matthew 25:34

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as he chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him."
Ephesians 1:3-4 (NAS)

"All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been slain."
Revelation 13:8 (NAS)
Third, what Richard Roberts attempts to do is equate the "Seed Faith" doctrine, in which people give money in relation to their needs, to his idea that God gave His Son Jesus Christ in the same manner and for the same reason, "Just as God gave out of His need for a desired result, He teaches us to plant seed against our needs." Richard Roberts claims that the death of Jesus Christ was God's attempt to plant seed against His "need" in order to guarantee that His plan would work, "And He came up with the plan to plant His only Son as a seed so that His creation would not perish . . ."

This bizarre application of the nature of the incarnation of Jesus Christ is Richard Roberts' attempt to insert his "Seed Faith" teaching into the atonement, claiming that the atonement is the same as giving money to the Oral Roberts Ministries, because he is stating that God had to give in order to receive just as he says that people have to give their money in order to receive their miracles, and in the process he rewrites Scripture to mean and teach what it does not. It is quite strange that the plan of salvation itself became the "seed" that insured its own success, but that is the claim of Richard Roberts, which would be the same as claiming that a person's need might be to pay off a million dollar debt, but first a million dollars must be given as a "Seed Faith" offering before a million dollars could be received to pay off the debt, which is an absurdity. There are serious problems created by his assertion, because in his "Seed Faith" teaching a person plants a seed (of money given to Oral Roberts Ministries) and God provides the harvest, but if God planted the seed of His Son, who was it that provided the harvest for God since there is no one greater than God to have accomplished the task? At that very point, Richard Roberts' comparison fails the test of reality.

So, to whom did God give who was greater than He and had power sufficiently greater than God in order to satisfy His "need"? The answer is obvious, because there is no one greater than God who could satisfy any "need" that it is presumed that He might have. God answers Richard Roberts' claim quite clearly.
"Who has given to Me that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is Mine."
Job 41:11 (NAS)

"For who is like Me, and who will sumon Me into court? And who then is the shepherd who can stand before Me?"
Jeremiah 50:44b (NAS)

"If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is Mine, and all it contains."
Psalm 50:12 (NAS)
The "Seed Faith-Giving and Receiving" doctrine was created as a fund raising method to finance the Oral Roberts Ministries and has been adopted by virtually every major Word of Faith Ministry to do the same thing for them.
