DAILY GUIDE TO MIRACLES from Oral Roberts Ministries Thursday, August 16th, 2007 www.orm.cc Fortune In A Bottle Oral Roberts Oral Roberts Ministries www.orm.cc "Broke and discouraged from having failed in business, jack Wurm aimlessly roamed a California beach one day. Although he was disheartened, he still had hope because God had never let him down. As Jack walked, his foot suddenly struck an object. When he looked down to see what it was, he noticed a half-hidden bottle with a note inside. Breaking the bottle open, Jack read, 'To avoid confusion, I leave my entire estate to the luck person who finds this bottle and to my attorney.' It was signed Daisy Alexander. At first jack thought it was a joke. Then he discovered that Daisy Alexander had been an heiress to the vast Singer sewing machine fortune. When she died, no will was found. Wurm went to court with Daisy's note in hand and claimed his newfound fortune. When he left the courtroom, he was $6 million richer. The Bible is our fortune. It is God's written will, telling us what He has given to us through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ. It reveals that when we are born again, we become heirs of God. And what is our inheritance? Eternal life, peace, joy, forgiveness, healing, and much more. And the Word of God provides us with the right to claim it as our very own, because we are children of God, and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:16, 17 nkjv)." ON DOCTRINE NOTE: Oral Roberts is not alone in his use of this alledged incident, because it is seen all over the Internet and used by numerous preachers in their sermons and writings. The problen is, the incident never happened. It is one of those "urban legends" that somehow get started and are perpetuated by people who find them so useful, especially preachers who use them as sermon illustrations to make a point. Daisy Singer Alexander was an actual person, who lived in London, England, but she never left a will that she placed in a bottle that miraculously made its way across the Atlantic Ocean and subsequently found its way into the Pacific Ocean and eventually landed on a beach near San Francisco, California, USA. |
