GOD IS AGAINST SICKNESS
Oral Roberts

"Did you know that God never made anyone sick? He is against sickness! In no place in the Bible will you ever find that Jesus was for sickness. He was against it. That means God doesn't go around giving people cancer or other terrible diseases. He doesn't go around seeking to hurt people. Everything that is good is from God. Everything that is bad is from the devil. And every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows (James 1:17 NIV).

I respect doctors, and one reason is that they have grasped this eternal truth and are against sickness and for health. Consciously or unconsciously, they have a pretty good theology of healing. Sometimes I wish we Christians had such a good theology of healing. Then we might be less inclined to argue about whether it's God's will to heal or not. We would approach people who have hurts and ills with Christ's own positive attitude of wholeness for them.

I speak out of experience when I make that statement, for I know that healing begins in this life. You have this wonderful claim upon the very real promises of God, which is intended personally for you and your loved ones in the NOW. God is against sickness in your body, and He is for your healing. Believe that, and reach out to Him with your faith to receive the healing you need today!"

ON DOCTRINE NOTE:
Oral Roberts approaches his theology of healing with a presupposition, an assumption that it is God's perfect will for everyone to be healed. At that point, the burden is then shifted from God to the person who is sick, who must exercise faith in order for God to heal. He claims that God is against sickness, but his God cannot act against that sickness without the cooperation of the individual who is sick. However, Oral Roberts creates a "straw man" argument in the process, by intimating that there are only two possibilities in relation to God; either God is against sickness or He is for sickness. But that is Oral Roberts' argument that he creates and does not represent reality. The question is not whether God is FOR or AGAINST sickness, but whether what Oral Roberts says about the subject is true.

Oral Roberts claims that under his ministry, literally uncounted thousands of people have been healed of their diseases, however, all of the quadriplegics, all of those with missing eyes, legs, arms, fingers and toes, who have come to his meetings also leave in the same condition. The visible ills are never healed and the legitimate wheelchair-bound infirm all leave in the same condition in which they came. Those who can walk or may use crutches are the ones who appear on the platform to receive their healing, but the parade of thousands in wheelchairs and the children in the last stages of cancer will never be seen receiving their healing which never occurs. If Oral Roberts has such a good theology about healing, then he should explain to those people why they are the only ones not being healed, and he needs to use a better explanation than claiming they did not have enough faith, which, possibly, they could obtain by giving a "Seed Faith" offering.

Oral Roberts' claim that "God never made anyone sick," is absolutely false and the reader should realize that his statement is from a person who also claims to receive revelations from God on a continual basis which he also claims are true. The Scripture is literally God's words, and many of His exact words are quoted directly, so what does God say about the manner in which He has used sickness?
"Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 'Take for yourselves handfuls of soot from a kiln, and let Moses throw it toward the sky in the sight of Pharaoh. It will become fine dust over all the land of Egypt, and will become boils breaking out with sores on man and beast through all the land of Egypt.' So they took soot from a kiln, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses threw it toward the sky, and it became boils breaking out with sores on man and beast. The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils were on the magicians as well as on all the Egyptians. And the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had spoken to Moses. Then the Lord said to Moses, ' Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh and say to him, ""Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, """Let My people go, that they may serve Me. For this time I will send all My plagues on you and your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth. For if by now I had put forth My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, you would then have been cut off from the earth. But, indeed, for this reason I have allowed you to remain, in order to show you My power and in order to proclaim My name through all the earth."""""'"
Exodus 9:8-16 (NAS).

"And He said, 'If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer,'"
Exodus 15:26 (NAS).

"'But if you do not obey Me and do not carry out all these commandments, if, instead, you reject My statutes, and if your soul abhors My ordinances so as not to carry out all My commandments, and so break My covenant, I, in turn, will do this to you: I will appoint over you a sudden terror, consumption and fever that will waste away the eyes and cause the soul to pine away; also, you will sow your seed uselessly, for your enemies will eat it up. I will set My face against you so that you will be struck down before your enemies; and those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee when no one is pursuing you. If also after these things you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. I will also break down your pride of power; I will also make your sky like iron and your earth like bronze. Your strength will be spent uselessly, for your land will not yield its produce and the trees of the land will not yield their fruit. If then, you act with hostility against Me and are unwilling to obey Me, I will increase the plague on you seven times according to y our sins. I will let loose among you the beasts of the field, which will bereave you of your children and destroy your cattle and reduce your number so that your roads lie deserted. And if by these things you are not turned to Me, but act with hostility against Me, then I will act with hostility against you; and I, even I, will strike you seven times for your sins. I will also bring upon you a sword which will execute vengeance for the covenant; and when you gather together into your cities, I will send pestilence among you, so that you shall be delivered into enemy hands. When I break your staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in one oven, and they will bring back your bread in rationed amounts, so that you will eat and not be satisfied. Yet if in spite of this you do not obey Me, but act with hostility against Me, then I will act with wrathful hostility against you and I, even I, will punish you seven times for your sins. Further, you will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters you will eat.'"
Leviticus 26:14-29 (NAS).

"The Lord will remove from you all sickness; and He will not put on you any of the harmful diseases of Egypt which you have known, but He will lay them on all who hate you,"
Deuteronomy 7:15 (NAS).

"Moses said to Aaron, 'Take your censer and put in it fire from the altar, and lay incense on it; then bring it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them , for wrath has gone forth from the Lord, the plague has begun!' Then Aaron took it as Moses had spoken, and ran into the midst of the assembly, for behold, the plague had begun among the people. So he put on the incense and made atonement for the people. He took his stand between the dead and the living, so that the plague was checked. But those who died by the plague were 14,700, besides those who died on account of Korah. Then Aaron returned to Moses at the doorway of the tent of meeting, for the plague had been checked."
Number 16:46-50 (NAS).

"'The Lord will smite you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors and with the scab and with the itch, from which you cannot be healed. The Lord will smite you with madness and with blindness and with bewilderment of heart; and you will grope at noon, as the blind man gropes in darkness, and you will not prosper in your ways; but you shall only be oppressed and robbed continually, with none to save you.
The Lord will strike you on the knees and legs with sore boils, from which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.'"

Deuteronomy 28:27-29, 35 (NAS).

"'If you are not careful to observe all the words of the law which are written in this book, to fear this honored and awesome name, the Lord your God, then the Lord will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, even severe and lasting plagues, and miserable and chronic sicknesses. He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid, and they will cling to you. Also every sickness and every plague which, not written in the book of this law, the Lord will bring on you until you are destroyed. Then you shall be left few in number, whereas you were as numerous as the stars of heaven, because you did not obey the Lord your God. it shall come about that as the Lord delighted over you to prosper you, and multiply you, so the Lord will delight over you to make you perish and destroy you; and you will be torn from the land where you are entering to possess it,'"
Deuteronomy 28:58-63 (NAS).

"Now the hand of the Lord was heavy on the Ashdodites, and He ravaged them and smote them with tumors, both Ashdod and its territories,"
1 Samuel 5:6 (NAS).

The Lord struck the king, so that he was a leper to the day of his death. And he lived in a separate house, while Jotham the king's son was over the household, judging the people of the land,"
2 Kings 15:5 (NAS).

"So after all this the Lord smote him in his bowels with an incurable sickness. Now it came about in the course of time, at the end of two years, that his bowels came out because of his sickness and he died in great pain. And his people made no fire for him like the fire for his fathers,"
2 Chronicles 21:18-19 (NAS).

"But Uzziah, with a censer in his hand for burning incense, was enraged; and while he was enraged with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, beside the altar of incense. Azariah the chief priest and all the priests looked at him, and behold, he was leprous on his forehead; and they hurried him out of there, and he himself also hastened to get out because the Lord had smitten him,"
2 Chronicles 26:19-20 (NAS).

"'So also I will make you sick, striking you down, desolating you because of your sins,"
Micah 6:13 (NAS)

"And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died,"
Acts 12:23 (NAS).

"But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drink, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep. But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged. But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world,"
1 Corinthians 11:28-32 (NAS).
Oral Roberts is very quick to deny what God has actually done, in order to support his theology. But a denial does not change the reality of what God says and does, and changing the Scripture to say what it does not in order to defend a teaching created by Oral Roberts does not give his teaching credibility or make it factual. Oral Roberts loses his credibility by not saying what God has actually said, and not admitting to what God has actually done.
