THE GOD OF INCREASE
Lindsay Roberts

"God is not a God of subtraction and division," I once heard a preacher say. "He's the God of multiplication and addition!" But how can we know our Lord is a God of increase? Is it biblical? Take a look at the promises in God's Word:

Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you (Matthew 6:33 nkjv).

He [God] who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way (II Corinthians 9:10-11 niv).

That year Isaac's crops were tremendous! He harvested a hundred times more grain than he planted, for the Lord blessed him (Genesis 26:12 nlt).

"I'll make sure you prosper, make sure you grow in numbers, and keep my covenant with you.... You'll still be eating from last year's harvest when you have to clean out the barns to make room for the new crops" (Leviticus 26:9-10 msg).

"I am God Almighty.... I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will multiply you exceedingly" (Genesis 17:1-2 nasb).

He [God] will love you, he will bless you, he will increase you (Deuteronomy 7:13 msg).

When we sacrificially sow seed, sometimes we may feel as if we'll be left with nothing. But that's not scriptural. God multiplies our seed...He adds to our blessing...He is the God of increase!"

ON DOCTRINE NOTE:
Lindsay Roberts cites 6 verses from the Bible which she claims support her premise. The problem is that the verses do not apply in the manner that she claims.

Matthew 6:33 is predicated on the statement of Jesus in Matthew 6:24,
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth."
The claims of the "Seed Faith" teaching which Lindsay Roberts is trying to support, go far beyond the everyday necessities of life, to include universal healing for every believer, obtaining faith by giving to a ministry so that it can be used in order to coerce God into granting the desires that have been expressed and agreed upon with other believers (Prayer of Agreement Doctrine), and the return of the "Seed Faith" offering with a hundredfold increase.

The verse says that a person should seek first His Kingdom and his righteousness and then those things (clothing, food, vs. 31) will be added. The verse does not state that those things will be obtained by giving a "Seed Faith" offering to the Oral Roberts Ministries.

In her treatment of 2 Corinthians 9:10-11, Lindsay Roberts conveniently left off the last part of verse 11 and verse 12, which properly quoted say,
"Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God." (NIV)
There is a qualification to that which God provides, and it is that those supplies should be used for others, as verse 9 states,
"As it is written: 'He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.'"
The sowing in the verses is not a gift to a ministry, but a gift to the poor and needy, and in the case of Chapters 8-9, it is the gift that the apostle Paul was collecting for the needy Christians in Jerusalem who were in poverty and being persecuted. The apostle Paul did not use the money for his ministry expenses or to pay his salary or those of his associates, but the collection was taken in full as collected and given to the believers in Jerusalem. That is a very big difference between the nature of the "Seed Faith" doctrine claims being taught by Lindsay Roberts and the actual manner in which the gift was used by the apostle Paul. In the "Seed Faith" doctrine, any desire which is confirmed and agreed with by two or more persons and then presented to God in faith must be granted by God. That is also a very different claim regarding the gift being collected by the apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 8-9.

Genesis 26:12 does not even apply to the claims made in the "Seed Faith" doctrine, because Isaac did not sow or give to God resulting in a blessing. In fact, the one hundredfold return on the crops that Isaac planted was after his sin of lying in Genesis 26:6-11. Lindsay Roberts wants to convince the reader that sowing seed for planting is the same as sowing money to a ministry in the "Seed Faith" doctrine, which is not the case at all. Isaac did not sow as is taught in the "Seed Faith" doctrine, he actually sowed seed into the land as a farmer, "Now Isaac sowed in that land . . ," vs. 12. He planted seed and was blessed by God for a very different reason, explained in verses 3-5,
"Sojourn in this land and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your descendants I will give all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; BECAUSE ABRAHAM OBEYED ME AND KEPT MY CHARGE, MY COMMANDMENTS, MY STATUTES AND MY LAWS."
Isaac was blessed because of the faith of Abraham, not as a result of his planting some seeds in the ground. There was no ministry to which Isaac gave any money or products, no poor people to whom he gave part of the harvest and he gave none of the "seed" to God in order to receive a blessing.

Leviticus 26:9-10, Genesis 17:1-2 and Deuteronomy 7:13 are verses that specifically apply to Israel as a result of the covenant made with them by God. To the extent that they kept the commands of God, Israel was either blessed or the blessing was removed. If Lindsay Roberts wishes to claim that she is still under the Old Covenant, then she can claim these verses for herself, But Christians are under the New Covenant.
