WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO

"One day Richard and I had reached a stalemate in a decision we were trying to make concerning our children. Neither one of us thought we had the right answer, and we had gone back and forth trying to decide what to do. If either of us had had a strong feeling one way or the other, we would have gone with it. But we didn't have it, and it was too important an issue to just guess at.

Finally we said, 'Okay, let's stop trying to make a decision. Let's pray in the Spirit.' Acts 1:8 NKJV says, You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. And we needed that power!! We hadn't been able to get an answer praying in our own understanding, but we knew that God has given us help for those times when we don't know what to do. He's given us the Holy Spirit, who makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God (Romans 8:27 NKJV). So when we pray in the Spirit. or in tongues, we are praying the perfect will of God.

John 16:13 NKJV says, When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth. The Holy Spirit is our divine Helper and Guide. When we don't know what to do, we can tap into His help and receive divine direction 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Not five minutes after Richard and I started praying in tongues, the answer came to us! And it was a completely different answer than either of us had been able to think of before. We looked at each other and said, 'That's it!' We received the direction we needed by praying in the Spirit, and you can too."

ON DOCTRINE NOTE:
Here's the bottom line in relation to what Lindsay Roberts is claiming about the gift of tongues.
1. When you pray in your own native language which you can understand and know what you are saying, which she defines as "praying in our own understanding," then God does not respond with an answer.
2. When you pray in a language that you cannot understand and do not know what you are saying, which she defines as "praying the perfect will of God," then God responds with an answer.

That is such a bizarre claim, it hardly merits serious consideration, because it is absolutely backward from what the Scripture teaches about prayer, but she is serious and she is teaching others to be serious about that belief also. In her theology, comprehension is a negative and ignorance is a positive; what you do know will hinder your prayers and what you don't know will cause your prayers to be effectual.

However, what she is claiming about tongues goes far beyond what is normally claimed in Charismatic circles. The standard Charismatic definition of the gift of tongues is that it is a special heavenly prayer language that is unique to the individual through which they make requests known to God. Although many claim that the language is not understood by the person speaking, it is still a language given to the person only. But Lindsay Roberts goes beyond that concept and connects that prayer language to the Holy Spirit, whereby the Holy Spirit is speaking though the individual by means of that prayer language. Because the language is connected to the intercession made by the Holy Spirit to God, she says, "when we pray in the Spirit, or in tongues, we are praying the perfect will of God."

The major problem with Lindsay Roberts' theology regarding tongues, is that it is not found in the Scripture. It is an entire theological system created outside of the Scripture, then phrased with biblical terms, which make it appear to be a biblically based doctrine, when it is not.
