STANDING ON THE WORD

"I drove past a billboard once that said, 'Isn't it funny that people believe television but question the Bible?' I thought, That sign is pretty catchy. But it's more than that.

The Word of God is true: The entirety of Your word is truth (Psalm 119:160 NKJV). It is powerful: The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12 NKJV). Jesus was the Word clothed in flesh: The Word [Christ] became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14 NKJV). God spoke the world into existence with His Word: Then God said.... (Genesis 1:3-31 NKJV).

At the time I saw the billboard, I was frustrated by a situation I was facing. I couldn't seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel. A friend kept saying, 'Lindsay, you've got to stand on the Word of God.' So one day, in total frustration, I put the Bible on the floor and literally stood on it. I cried out, 'God, I am standing on Your Word, and I am not going to be moved until I hear from You!

As I stood there, I realized I was standing on the most powerful force on the face of the earth-the Word of God. Jesus said, Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away (Matthew 24:35 NKJV). My faith began to rise up, and I knew that if I believed God's Word, something was going to happen. And He brought healing to my situation.

Literally standing on the Word of God may seem extreme to some, but it helped me realize that, according to the Word of God, there is no area of our lives that is beyond hope."

ON DOCTRINE NOTE:
Literally standing on the Bible might be considered a little extreme but still acceptable to some, but actually it's quite silly. Silliness is not an activity that coerces God and how that activity caused her "faith to rise up" is not explained, especially by use of the Scripture. Her approach seems to be like the child who says that they will hold their breath until they get their way. When a theology is adopted that assigns authority over the physical and spiritual affairs of the universe to Christians based on their agreement with each other in relation to whatever specific desires they may have, then eventually that authority extends to authority over God, by which demands are also made on Him to satisfy human aspirations.

It is one thing to accept the Bible as the source of belief and faith and "stand" or remain resolute and firm on that basis, but it is quite another thing to place the Bible on the floor and literally stand on it and then demand that God speak. Just perhaps, a better way would be to adopt the example found in James 5:16b, "The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much."

But what is really interesting about Lindsay Roberts' comments is a statement that a person could pass by without thinking much about it, "And He brought healing to my situation." A redefinition of healing allows her to consider the resolution of virtually any circumstance to be a healing, and by her teaching that healing is in the atonement, any resolution is guaranteed by the atonement. That broadens the definition of a healing beyond reason, and, at the same time, trivializes what is said to be a healing and what is considered to be a miracle from God. This is no more apparent than what her husband, Richard Roberts, considers to be a miracle answer to prayer in her life, which he defines as the "Lindy Spot":
"When my wife, Lindsay, goes to the mall, she asks God for the parking spot closest to the door. We call it the 'Lindy Spot.' And do you know what happens every time she goes to the mall? She gets to park in the spot closest to the door!"
Standing on the Bible in order for "faith to rise up" so that a demand can be made for an answer from God, and miracle parking spots are just a few of those circumstances that are eventually defined as healings. So, when a person believes for a miracle on a daily basis, they will find those miracles if their definitions are reduced low enough.
