DAILY GUIDE TO MIRACLES from Oral Roberts Ministries Wednesday, October 5, 2005 www.orm.cc BREAKING THE POWER OF DEBT Lindsay Roberts Oral Roberts Ministries www.orm.cc "Are you operating in debt? I'm not talking about just financial debt. Debt is anything you don't have enough of. Debt is anything you lack. If you're operating in sickness and disease, you lack health. That means you're operating in debt to your physical body. God can break the power of debt over your physical body and other areas as well. How can He do that? It starts with you. In Malachi 3:10, 11 nkjv, God said, 'Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,' says the Lord of hosts, 'if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes.' The devourer means the seed-eater. What happens when your seed is eaten? Satan steals your harvest. In other words, God is saying, 'I will rebuke whatever is eating your seed when you bring your tithes and offerings to Me.' God is a God of increase! If you're suffering from lack, sow your seed to defeat your need. Ask God to break the spirit of debt in your family, in your finances, in your body, in your marriage, in your emotions-in every area of your existence. God honors His Word. When you sow in obedience, He can pour out the multiplication of a miracle to meet your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19)." ON DOCTRINE NOTE: There are four major errors in the statement above, about which the reader should be aware, and invalidates completely what is being said: 1. Wrong definition of debt. A debt is not a lack, but an obligation to pay back what has already been obtained. A debt is a liability owed by the person to someone else, not an asset owed by someone else to the person. Debt is a condition of commitment to return to the owner what was previously borrowed, very often with additional interest added, and is a contractual agreement entered into by the person. A person may lack the means to pay a debt, but that is not the result of the debt, which has already been incurred. It is a wrong definition to presume that just because a person does not have enough of what they would desire, that that would be considered a condition of debt. Is a person in debt in relation to an automobile because they drive a 10-year old Ford instead of a brand new Mercedes Benz? There is quite a difference between having sufficient and having all that it is desired. Even having less than sufficient or even having nothing is still not being in a position of debt if no debt has been incurred. 2. Wrong application of tithes. Tithing is not taught in the New Testament and there is no reference to Christians ever tithing in the early church. Giving was always voluntary and predicated on commitment rather than an obligation. If tithing is considered to be the pathway to riches and standing before God, then a person should tithe according to Old Testament principles rather than the claims of today's teachers who believe that the tithe was only 10%. Unfortunately, the tithe in the Old Testament was as high as 25-30%, in addition to gifts, so if a person is going to tithe, they must do it right, unlike the teachers who talk about a tithe which they know nothing about. SEE: Does God Require Me To Give A Tithe Of All I Earn? 3. Wrong definition of the devourer. It is such a convenience to define the devourer as the "seed-eater" in order to make it conform more closely with the "Seed Faith" teaching. How subtle is the implication that the devourer, the "seed-eater", will consume the "seed-faith" money if it is not given, and especially if the biggest offering possible is not given. The implication is, if a person does not give their money to a ministry, then Satan will take it away anyway, so why not give it all? But, where is that teaching actually found in the Scripture? In the passage, the "devourer" is not Satan, but the locusts and pests that eat the crops, against which there was no defense. In the verses, the "devourer" consumes the harvest, not the seed. Lindsay Roberts has simply adopted the same teaching as her father-in-law, Oral Roberts, who makes the same mistakes in relation to the passage. See: "That's God's Promise" - Oral Roberts "God Preserves The Seed" - Oral Roberts 4. Wrong definition of spiritual bondage It is quite a different teaching to claim that certain conditions in life are the result of a spirit bondage in relation to those situations. What is being attempted, is to cloak a teaching with the appearance of a biblical foundation, when in fact, the teaching does not come from the Scripture at all. There is no such teaching in the Scripture regarding a condition caused by a spirit of debt in relation to health, wealth, marital problems, emotional difficulties or any other difficulty in the life of a person. God honors His word, but He does not honor words that he did not say or teachings that He did not place in the Scripture. |
