HEARING GOD'S VOICE

"I believe the only way we will be able to stand against the onslaughts of the devil that are coming against us today is by being able to hear and obey God's voice. We were made to hear our heavenly Father's voice. Deuteronomy 4:36 says, Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee. In the same way that children recognize the voice of their mother so she can instruct, correct, and encourage them, we were made to hear our Father's voice.

We recognize the voices of our parents and children. If they call on the phone, we don't have to ask them to identify themselves. We know the sound of their voices. It's familiar to us. This is the same familiarity our heavenly Father wants us to experience when He speaks to us.

God is not silent. He is speaking all the time in many ways-in a song, in a word from someone, in that still, small voice inside of us. But we must heave a listening heart. We have to tune our ears and our spirits to hear from Him through His Word. God speaks clearly, not in vague impressions but in specific details. In Genesis 5 when He spoke to Noah about building the ark, He gave him specific instructions about every aspect needed to successfully complete the job.

God desires to speak to us just as clearly today and to give us specific direction for our lives. He wants us to make a quality decision to learn to recognize His voice and listen to His instruction so we can have peace and be free from confusion and frustration."

ON DOCTRINE NOTE:
No, Deuteronomy does not say, "We were made to hear our Heavenly Father's voice." The verse is quoted incorrectly in order to support a belief in continuing direct revelation from God.

Deuteronomy 4:36, properly quoted, says the following:
"Out of the heavens He let you hear His voice to discipline you; and on earth He let you see His great fire, and you heard His words from the midst of the fire." (NAS)

"From heaven He made you hear his voice to discipline you. On earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words from out of the fire." (NIV)

"Out of heaven He let you hear His voice, that He might instruct you; on earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words out of the midst of the fire." (NKJV)

"Out of heaven He made thee to hear His voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth He showed thee His great fire; and thou heardest His words out of the midst of the fire." (KJV)
The proper context of the verse is in relation to Israel and the events of the Exodus, and the application of the terminology is not that they were created to hear God's voice, but that they were allowed, given, permitted or granted that ability in a specific situation.
