Answer:
John 3:16 tells us that those who believe on Him will not perish. Romans 10:9-10 tells us again that you MUST believe in your heart the Jesus died, and God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. The Word also say[s], "As many as received Him, He gave them power to become sons of God.

If the gospel of inclusion is correct we are fools to send missionaries, have outreach programs, or reach for the lost in anyway. According to those who adhere to this false doctrine they are already saved? What is the purpose?

I think this doctrine is in keeping with the trend of the world to be "Politically correct" and so not to exclude anyone. Sorry, Hell and judgment of the lost was God's idea [not] ours. We better be about preaching the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus declared that he was the way and the door. No one could come to the Father except through Him. How can they believe on Him of whom they have not heard?

Answer:
I don't believe so, because how can you know about salvation without knowing the price that was paid for it, or the fact that you are a sinner and in need of salvation. Without that knowledge how would you know? The Bible says those that heard and believed were saved. If you don't hear you can't decide whether to believe or not. John 3:16.

Answer:
A person can not receive salvation without hearing the gospel. Paul tells us in Romans that faith comes by hearing and hearing from the word of God. Salvation is through knowing Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me."
Missouri, United States

Answer:
No. A person must hear the gospel and look to Christ for merciful forgiveness and imputed righteousness. Salvation apart from Christ or His gospel is non-existent. Though there may be a few examples (i.e. John the Baptist - Luke 2[1]:15, etc.) in Scripture which report the conversion (being filled with the Spirit) prior to physical birth these would hardly be seen as normative for the Christian life.

Answer:
NO.
Romans 10:9-14 says:
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Rom 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
Jesus gave the commission to go a preach the gospel to the whole world. Why would we have to do this if salvation could be obtained without hearing. Jesus also said "I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except by me."
Therefore, hearing the word and knowing Jesus Christ is a requirement of salvation.

Kentucky, United States

Answer:
My answer is no because the knowledge of Jesus Christ is essential to Salvation. Not necessarily saying they have to "hear" the gospel, but they need to be in tune and in contact with the Word of God. You need to know the gospel, the Word because you have to study to show your own self approved, you have to be rooted in the Word of God, and have on the Spiritual Armor of Righteousness because if you don't have these things, you're bound to be tricked. And as well, the devil knows if you're Spirit filled. If he sees emptiness then that's an open door for him. Besides, when you're baptized in water, and of the Holy Ghost, You're baptized in the name of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost. You can't have one without the other. To be truly saved, to have true and total salvation, yes, you have to know Jesus. To be saved means you're saved and quickened from your sins, from death. In order to be saved you have to live Christlike and how can you live Christlike if you don't know Jesus or the gospel.

Answer:
No, contrary to what Carlton Pearson teaches, one cannot obtain salvation apart from accepting and serving Jesus Christ. Scripture is very clear that God is in the buisness of seperating the sheep from the goats, the clean and unclean. The inclusion gospel contends that if God is love, how could he send billions to hell? The answer is because he is HOLY and HE makes the rules. He had no problem wiping out the entire planet and everyone on it except Noah and family when all the world was filled with wickedness. His love does not exceed His HOLINESS, it dwells with it. Everyone needs a healthy dose of the fear of God before this inclusion thing deceives many more.

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
17 So then faith cometh by the word of God.

Answer:
Of course NOT!! NO!! One can not obtain salvtion without meeting the Savior or knowing Him. Salvation means deliverance from the power and effects of sin. The Savior is the one who brings salvation. So, how can you have salvation without the Savior, which is Jesus Christ!!.
New York, New York, United States

Answer:
The question is slanted. For instance can we say salvation is obtained, in the sense that man does something which makes it happen. Rather the question, can a person be regenerated by the Spirit of God without hearing the gospel or knowing Jesus Christ, - is pretty unanswerable, but what we DO know is that the Church is commanded to announce the saving act of God in the Person of Jesus Christ and as that is done, the Spirit of God WILL own the message and according to His will, grant faith & repentance for the ensuing state of regeneration and forgiveness of sin.
New Zealand
ON DOCTRINE COMMENT:
All semantics aside, you did understand the meaning of the question and any slant that may be claimed is unintentional and irrelevant to the purpose of the question, because the point of the question was not in relation to whether salvation is possessed by human effort or given as a gift. I used the word 'obtain' as noted in 1 Thessalonians 5:9 and translated 'obtain' in the KJV, NKJV and the NAS. The NIV translates as 'receive', which could also be claimed is slanted, because a person can also receive a thing as a result of a payment or as a gift. A thing can be acquired or obtained by exchange or by gift, but that is not the point of the question.

It is quite true that salvation is granted, not on the basis of works, defined as human effort to obtain standing before God by acts defined as meritorious in effect. However, man is not outside of the equation, which is the assumption in Universalist belief. The rejection by God of self-proclaimed meritorious works by man does not erase the reality that there are certain responses that must be made by man in order for salvation to be effectual. The responses can only be made by the individual and not by any other person on their behalf.

Those responses are:
1. Belief - Romans 10:8-11, Hebrews 11:6 - although enabled by God, it must be exercised by the individual.
2. Confession - Matthew 10:32, Luke 12:8, Romans 10:8-11, 1 John 1:9.
3. Repentance - Luke 13:3, Acts 2:38, Acts 20:21, Romans 10:8-11, 2 Peter 3:9.
4. Faith - Romans 10:8-11.

These responses are not works, because they do not change the view of God in relation to the nature of mankind in general or the nature of any specific individual. As such, they are not meritorious in the sense of gaining acceptability by which they claim merit for some inherent goodness, which those works are said to impart, that justifies a person before God.

What I find so intriguing is that you have difficulty in providing an answer to the question, and assume there is no answer that can be known. You propose an answer to the alternative, being those who hear the message, but that answer is a given in relation to the question. The question presumes that a person can obtain salvation through the gospel, but the difficulty is that certain persons claim it can also be obtained outside the parameters of the gospel message, so the question is seeking a confirmation or denial of that claim. There are only two alternatives; either a person can have salvation without hearing the gospel and/or knowing Jesus Christ, or they cannot. Salvation is the primary message of the gospel; all other elements being secondary. But, even almost 2,000 years after the death of Jesus Christ, Christians are still confused over the elements of salvation and of the primary definition of how a person becomes a Christians. If Christians cannot define salvation for themselves, how can they proclaim a message of confusion to the world and expect that it will be effectual or pleasing to God?

I assumed that there would be basically three answers to the question: (1)Yes, (2)No, or (3)I don't know. But, possibly there is a fourth, indicating that the question is irrelevant, because a person does not believe in a theology where salvation is necessary. Of course, that answer is meaningless to the discussion. Your answer essentially falls into the third category, since, if the answer cannot be known, then it is unknown.

I also assumed that there would be an explanation for those positions based on a biblical foundation or a secular foundation in the case of the fourth. If we assume the question cannot be answered and provide no Scriptural foundation, then the assumption is that the Scripture is silent on the subject, which it is not. If we assume that the answer is NO, then the Scripture must provide a foundation for that belief since an opinion carries no authority. If the answers is YES, then there are two or more ways to be saved, and again, the Scripture must provide a foundation for that belief and a definition of any alternative manner of salvation or else the conclusion is an opinion not based on fact. The secondary question in relation to the answer being YES, is in relation to the gospel message itself. If there may be another way to be saved, other than through the gospel, why is the gospel commanded exclusively to be preached and not some other way, and why is the possibility of an alternative salvation never mentioned in the Scripture?

Answer:
NO. In John 14:6 Jesus says "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me". Besides salvation is of the Lord. Hearing the gospel and knowng Jesus Christ are results of Gods wonderful mercy towards fallen men and women. See Romans 9:15,16.

Answer:
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ (God). Therefore it is impossible to obtain salvation without hearing the Word (including the Gospel) and knowing Jesus Christ.
Indiana, United States

Answer:
Hypothetically, yes. One could obtain eternal life without hearing the gospel or knowing Jesus Christ IF one could maintain God's unchanging standard of absolute moral perfection from birth until death. Since moral perfection is not a possibility due to original sin, another method must be used. Fortunately for sinners, God sent his son to serve as a propitiation (Romans 3:24-26, Hebrews 2:16-18, 1 John 2:1-3, 1 John 4:9-11) for sins. All those whom the Father has mercifully chosen in Him before the foundation of the world have been predestined for salvation and, therefore, will be called, justified, and glorified (Romans 8:28-30). The gift of faith (Ephesians 2:8), through grace, will be given to those elected and after they have heard the gospel they will believe in Jesus Christ. As Paul said in Romans 10:14-15;17, "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? For "faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ" (Rom 10:17).

Answer:
The question itself is essentially by default, one that can only be answered by a Christian. That the gospel is foolishness to a non-believer would assert that such a person would not have either the inclination nor twill to assert or to assume that salvation may be obtained without knowing (or knowing for that matter) our Lord Jesus Christ or hearing the Gospel of Grace. The answer to this question comes as a result of the knowledge of god acquired through and by the means of the Holy Spirit's teaching, (i.e. reading and/or hearing the Word).
The essential element of the question, is in fact, can a person be saved who has no knowledge of Christ's substitutionary death, which whereby the sin of man was atoned for. Thus rendering ineffective the power and dominion of sin. Hence, salvation (the saving grace of God) being made available to whosoever (few or many) may be called through the righteousness of the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The question should at most, result if affirmation among true believers as to the honour and priviledge of being called of God. Also the question should affirm the need for god fearing souls everywhere, to preach the gospel of truth among those to whom it (the question) refers.
I certainly do not think one may obtain salvation without knowing our Lord Jesus, or hearing the gospel. i do think however that the question is rather an hypothetical one which should be used among true believers for edification and assurance rather than for the basis of dogmatic assertion that some poor lost soul may never be saved. While there's life there's hope. Amen.

Answer:
A person trying to obtain salvation without knowing Jesus would be like a fish swimming in mud. The Bible states in John 14:6
"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
Some may believe in "self-righteousness," but that is nothing but a "self-told lie."

Answer:
First, as to the question: It is necessary to hear, in some way, the Gospel message of Jesus Christ in order to be saved or, as Jesus puts it, "born again." This "hearing" may be in the form of listening to a preacher in a meeting, the witnessing of a Christian, reading a Gospel tract, or reading the Scriptures themselves. "Faith," after all, comes by "hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." When reading (tract or Bible), we "hear" the Gospel by the Holy Spirit speaking to us.
Now, the addendum: having read the responses of some, I note that they apparently wish to impress others with their deep depths of wisdom and intelligence, their tremendous philosophical abilities. The Bible tells us that the wisdom of men is foolishness with God, and that by wisdom man knows not God. I have reason to suspect that the one who went to so much trouble to impress the rest of us with his great wisdom needs himself to truly hear --and respond positively-- to the Gospel, and receive the salvation the question speaks of. God help him --and others-- to do so. God bless you all. "Ye Must Be Born again" (John 3:3).

Answer:
Obtaining salvation means repenting one's sins and believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died and rose from the dead for our sake and paid the ultimate price for our sins. If you don't know about Jesus Christ, how can you BELIEVE that he is the Son of God? How can you redeem your soul in the eyes of God? It simply is not possible.
Melbourne, Australia

Answer:
I would answer it by asking few questions:
If salvation was available elsewhere, why did the rich young men think necessary to ask Jesus?
Why didn t Jesus tell him to perfect that which he was doing good works , upon reaching perfection he too would have obtain salvation like others Jesus could have gave him examples if He had any?
If Jesus thought perfection was unobtainable, yet salvation was even being less then perfect, why didn't HE establish an absolute minimum? That would make salvation obtainable by everybody everywhere who would meet that minimum either intentionally or unintentionally independent of Jesus sacrifice. May be that is why there s no minimum. HE is the minimum. Acts 4:12

Answer:
Acts 17:26 niv
"From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live."
That says, God has determined when each one of us is to be born, and where we are to live. God misses no one. He knows the number of hairs on our head.
If someone is a person who God knows would believe in Jesus Christ, the Lord will make sure that someone is there to get the Word to him. It can be by tract left someplace, or hearing someone speak. If they live where they could not hear of Christ? God chose for them to be born there. That is saying that God goofed. God does not goof! They will hear of Jesus in some way.
Acts 4:12 niv
" Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
Somehow... some way. God has a plan to exclude no one who he knows would believe. If they will believe, they will hear about Jesus Christ. To say otherwise, is to say God is not really omniscient, nor omnipotent. That God had no control over where they live as to not be able to hear about Jesus. God is competent. If they would believe? They will learn of Jesus in some way. God has already planned for it to happen.

Hear the words of St. Paul in Romans 2:14-15 :
14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness"

California, United States
ON DOCTRINE COMMENT:
You have quoted a very interesting portion of Scripture, but it has nothing to do with salvation being obtained by Gentiles by means of some law or process that is unique to themselves. The passage presents a teaching by the apostle Paul that is opposite to what you claim. The passage is a comparison of Jews to Gentiles and the application of the Law of God; (1) the Law of God given to the nation of Israel in the Old Testament and (2) the law of God written in heart, given not only to Jews but to Gentiles also.

Unfortunately, you assume that the performance of the Gentiles in relation to the law in their heart is capable of bringing about salvation, which nullifies the comparison that the apostle Paul presents. The point that the apostle Paul makes is that the Law of the Old Testament was incapable of providing salvation for Jews, just as the law written in the heart is incapable of providing salvation for gentiles - both applications of laws result in condemnation, not salvation. That is the point he makes in relation to the performance of the Gentiles, " which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law," which shows that they have "the work of the law written in their hearts. . ."

"Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of god, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus. . ,"
Romans 3:19-24.

The apostle Paul's comparison is quite clear: whether you acknowledge the Law of God given at Mt. Sinai or you acknowledge the law written in the heart, the attempt to perform the duties of those laws will lead to condemnation apart from faith in the redemption provided by Jesus Christ. The Law of the 10 Commandments and the law written in the heart reveal sin; they do not provide forgiveness for it. The main point was made in chapter 1 of Romans:

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. . . . For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the law . . ,"
Romans 2:12-13.

And then your verses 14 and 15 are noted, after every person has been condemned by the Law of God. If a person does those things that are in the law, thinking they are right or proper, then, although that person does not have the Law as found in the 10 Commandments, they will be judged by that Law and by the law written in their hearts, because by their actions they reveal that they know what is right to do in relation to the law of God, and that there is a God who exists and demands accountability from them. The law only condemns, because it has no power to provide salvation:

"For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit,"
Romans 8:3-4.

"For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would be heir of the world was not through the Law; but through the righteousness of faith. for if those who are of the Law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise is nullified; for the Law brings about wrath, but where there is no law, there is no violation. For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants , not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all," Romans 4:13-16.

Without the law of God, whether it be the revelation given in the Old Testament or that which is placed in the heart, then there is no violation of law and guilt is not assessed. However, there is a law given in the Old Testament and there is a law written in every heart, so guilt is real for all human beings because the law reveals the guilt, but provides no means of salvation. Performance of the demands of the law will not result in salvation.

Hear the words of Jesus:
"Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day,'"
John 6:35-40.

"So Jesus said to them again, 'Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep,"
John 10:7-11.

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me,'"
John 14:6.

"'For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost,'"
Luke 19:10.

"'For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God,'"
John 3:16-18.

Hear the words of the apostle Peter:
"And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."
Acts 4:12.

". . . and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross. so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed,"
1 Peter 2:24.

Hear the words of the apostle Paul:
"Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of god in Him,"
2 Corinthians 5:18-21.

"For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time,"
1 Timothy 2:5-6.

The Hebrew Messiah has a Hebrew Name. So if one want Salvation according to the Holy Scriptures that Savoir must have a Hebrew Name.
The Prophets that wrote about the true Messiah warned that there would arise false saviors and teachers to permote an evil religous system of deception. Rev.12:9 states that the whole world would be deceived. So the answer to this question is YES you can have Salvation in the real Messiah sent by Father Yahweh, and His Name is not Jesus Christ.
May Holy Spirit that raised Yahshua Messiah from the dead bless your understanding in your search for TRUTH!

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT:
This answer is a very good example of a man-made doctrine added to the gospel which has no foundation in the Scripture. The person has adopted a belief that the only valid name for the Savior is His Jewish name. This ignores the fact that the writers of the New Testament used the Greek name for the Savior which is: Jesus [Iesous in Greek - Jesus in English - Yehôwshü'a in the Hebrew] Christ or Anointed or Savior or Messiah [Christos in Greek - Christ or English - mâshîyach in Hebrew]. Apparently the language spoken by God is Hebrew and He has decreed that only Hebrew names are valid. There is no Scriptural foundation for the claim that the Savior must be referred to by His Jewish name rather the His name as a translation into any specific language. The criteria for salvation is that the right person as a Savior be called on for salvation, which has no relation to His name as a national linguistic title. The person refers to the Holy Spirit by His English title, skipping His Greek title, Holy [hagios in Greek - qôdesh in Hebrew] Spirit [pneuma in Greek - rûwach in Hebrew]. Apparently the Holy Spirt can be addressed in any language without consideration for the Hebrew description. So, if you do not know the Jewish name of the Messiah, you might miss salvation on a technicality. These doctrines are part of a cultic religious group called "The House of Yahweh," and they have their own "translation" of the Scripture called the "Book of Yahweh." The group claims Jesus Christ was only a human being and not divine, and denies the doctrine of the Trinity. The group claims to have discovered the true pronunciation of God's name noted in the Old Testament and have the only translation of the Scripture that restores God's true name. The absurdity of human additions to the gospel message continues.

Answer
Since faith comes by hearing the Word of God, a person cannot believe without first hearing the gospel preached. In the case of babies who die and those who are too mentally handicapped to understand the gospel, I believe God may save some of them without the Word if He chooses to. David's baby's death is often used to prove that babies can go to heaven.

In the Iliad of Homer, the great Trojan warrior, Hector, was preparing to fight Achilles and the invading Greeks. As he was about to leave home, Hector wanted to hold his young son Astayanax in his arms and bid him farewell. But Hector's armor so frightened the infant that he shrank back to his nurse's caress. The father removed his bronze helmet and took up his little child in his arms. The boy discovered the father of his love behind all that armor. We get to see the love of God through Jesus Christ and the Gospel.

That is similar to what Paul does in his letter to the romans, beginning with 3:21. Having shown God as judge and executioner, as it were, he next shows the God of love, who reaches out with open arms to sinful people in the hope that they will come to Him and be saved.

After proving the universal sinfulness of humanity and their desperate need for righteousness (1:18, 3:20), Paul shifts gears and demonstrates that God aloe can provide that righteousness. To illustrate this truth, Paul devotes the entire fourth chapter to Abraham. This godly Old Testament saint is a shining example of the central biblical truth that a person can become right with God only by faith in response to His grace, never by works.

Now, lest you think that I have shown an example where one (Abraham) did come to God and Salvation without hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.....

The Holy Bible, New King James Version
Galatians 3:6 - Galatians 3:9 (NKJV)
6 just as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
7 Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham.
8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, In you all the nations shall be blessed.

The Holy Bible, New King James Version
John 3:18 NKJV
18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Answer: No, by the logic that all people are given some light, by that light a person would learn about Jesus. If a person is given that light, no matter how small, dosn't act on that light he condems himself. For if a person has that light and that spurs the desire to know truth he will do whatever he can to learn it. And furthermore we must realize that God is eternaly just and infinently righteous, therefore we can safely trust God's judgment.

By Christ's own admission, a person cannot be saved apart from his atonement.

Jhn 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Some of the Arminian persuasion have gotten the impression that all people of all time were given a chance to accept Christ (or the coming Messiah) but that is not found in scripture. According to the Biblical concept of election- God the father has preordained whom He would give Christ to save- and those that Christ saved WILL be drawn by the Holy Spirit to acceptance of the gospel and saving faith.

Rom 8:29,30 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

All of the pieces are here. But they MUST be there for atonement to be accomplished. ONLY those the father has given the son will be saved, and ONLY those that the Holy Spirit draws and enables will be saved.

Answer
To decide or not that someone has recieved or not recieved salvation, is overstepping my bounds as a mere mortal man. The Bible says:

(Mat 7:22 NIV) Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?'
(Mat 7:23 NIV) Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

If those people will not make it who knows who will? Certainly not me. The Bible also says:

(Titus 2:11 NIV) For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
(Titus 2:12 NIV) It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,

ALL men have a conscience, they ALL know the difference beetween good and evil, this is a direct result of Adam eating the fruit of, "The tree of the knowledge of good and evil". Anyone who blurrs the line beetween right and wrong have deliberatly "trained" themselves to do so and are those...

(1 Tim 4:2 NIV)...whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.

The fact remains that men are "without excuse" according to romans chapter 1:

(Rom 1:20 NIV) For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Men can see the Lords creation and are without excuse that he exists. Jesus Christ is the Way, the truth and the Life. No one comes to the father but by him, this is true. And I beieve it with my whole heart. But what about the africian tribe that lives in the most remote parts of the continent, who knows nothing of civilization, and will be born, live and die without likely ever having contact with any other human beings. What if he knows that God exists from creation, and what if he accepts that fruit pulsing through his blood that tells him that he should live a "godly life" and what if he knows to "live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age". To be truthful I do not know, but to try and judge that mans salvation is not a part of my Job description.

(Mark 9:40 NIV) for whoever is not against us is for us.

In light of the intent of the question, no other gospel toher than that of the gospel of Jesus Christ will give us salvation. Any gospel(good news) other than Jesus is:

(Gal 1:7b NIV) ...really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.

Answer
No (save the infant and perhaps the imbecile).
***The Bible tells us we are ALL sinners.
"Jews and Greeks are all under sin; as it is written, There is none righteous, *not even one*; There is none who understands, there is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, there is *not even one* (Romans 3:9b-12)

***That we must know and believe in God's Son alone to be saved!
Jesus tells us: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me" (John 14:6)

Peter tells us: "There is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)

Paul tell us: "There is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5)

John tells us: "The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God s wrath remains on him" (John 3:35-36)

"God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life" (1 John 5:11-12)

***Finally, concerning our need to hear the Gospel, Paul tells us:
"Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved. How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ" (Romans 10:13- 14,17)

All throughout history, beginning with Adam, man has been made aware of his condition and given some form of promise. The first promise came when Adam was informed that the seed of the woman would crush the head of the srpent, and also through the coverings of skin (an innocent animal's - showed one would have to die) given by God. Following Adam, the patriearchs were given various and increasingly deeper revelation about the savior that would come. Israel and the church are the keepers of the promise, and none seek God apart from contact with this promise. None have been saved apart from a knowledge of their spiritual death and need for a savior.

No person has ever obtained salvation apart from Jesus Christ, because He is Almighty God. But to answer the question at hand from the scriptures, He that believeth on Him hath everlasting life, but he that believeth not hath not life. John 3:36 says that not only do that not have life but that the wrath of God abides on them. I heard a preacher, teacher, or so called say last week that to be justified in the sense of being saved meant to be changed from the inside. Then this person said, "God can't change you, I can't change you, on one can change you, but you. That is the kind of teaching that is being given in the name of Jesus. And I would say that this person had better be careful that they not be one of those to whom Jesus will say, "depart from me I never knew you".

God bless, keep up the good work.

Answer
NO. Jesus did reconcile us to God on the cross. He took on our sins when he was crucified. He died and then defeated death, rose again and is interceding to the Father on our behalf.

Yes, salvation is free, but there is something we have to do and that is confess with our mouths and belief in our hearts that Jesus is the Son of God. Belief that He was born of a virgin, crucified, died, buried, and on the third day rose again.

The Bible teaches us that Jesus is the "Door" to the Father and that we can not reach the Father unless we come through the "Door", Jesus Christ.

In Matthew 28:18, Jesus gave the commission saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you, always, even to the end of the age>" Amen."

What kind of God would condemn people to eternal seperation from Him when they have never even had the chance to hear His name? God is love. God is all powerful. The Question, and this website for that matter, is a pile of pompous religiosity. How does analyzing different doctrines and color coding them as "correct, or partially correct according to us," help to reach people for Christ? You are condemning peoples list of beliefs by comparing it to your list of beliefs. Jesus did not come to bring doctrine, He came to bring GRACE! May God bless you as you turn off your computer, stop analyzing doctrines and reach out in relationship to another person through the grace of God.

Answer
No. I realize some of you may want to appeal to john 1:29, 3:16 or 2peter 3:9 and contend that Jesus' sacrifice is for the whole world. That would put you in a category of heresy I haven't the ability to explore. God's people are called, chosen and few. Romans 1:6, 8:28, 1Cor 1:24, 2Tim 1:9, and 1 Peter.
After you check your concordance and discover the greek for 'called' is an irresistable call, you'd better get started studying Calvinism and Armenianism, because they will address the free will issues you'll be struggling with next week.
Matthew 18:14 should make it clear that God will not lose those that are his. John 8:44 also shows that their are those who belong to Jesus, and those who belong to the devil. Yeah, those and every other parable in the Gospels ought to convince you that many are bound for destruction. Matt 7:13. Php 3:19.
The point is there's no middle ground. There are the elect of Jesus' ( check who the apostles are authoring their letters to) and there is everyone else. Yes God created evil Isa.45 and there are vessels for honor and dishonor, and you'd better read romans 9 if you think God owes us anything. We are all damned, but thanks be to Jesus Christ, that through his sacrifice in death upon the cross we the elect might be redeemed before God.
Don't ask " what about the OT Prophets?" They anticipated the coming of the Lord by faith and will be redeemed.

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT:
Thank you for your visit and message on the On Doctrine Current Question ANSWER page.

You must deal with a number of biblical criteria in regards to your belief that there is another path to heaven based on human ignorance:

1. The Scripture does not allow for a claim of ignorance of God, Romans 1:18-32
     a. God is evident to every human being, vs. 19, cf. Acts 14:17.
     b. God's existence is revealed by what He has created, vs.20.
     c. The truth about the knowledge of God is deliberately suppressed or ignored, vs. 18.
     d. God has not been honored even with the knowledge that human beings have, vs. 21, cf. Job 21:15,
         Job 22:15-18.
     e. Knowing that they were accountable to a real God, human beings created their own false gods to which
they became accountable through their own created doctrines, vss. 22-23, 25, 32.
2. Jesus Christ stated that He was the only standard for salvation:
     a. John 8:23-24 ". . . unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."
     b. Matthew 7:21-29 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven . . ."
3. Human beings are judged and go to hell because of their sins, not because of a self-proclaimed ignorance
of the existence of God or the gospel message, John 8:21, 24. Jesus Christ indicates that there are 4 reasons
why a person can be assured of dying in their sins:
    a. Self-righteousness, John 8:20-22.
    b. Being of the earth, John 8:23-24.
    c. Being unbelieving, John 8:24.
    d. Being willfully ignorant, John 8:25-29.

It is easy to by-pass the issue of the sins of humanity in relation to salvation and skip directly to that of going to heaven. The reality is that God had no obligation to provide a means of salvation for humanity. He would have been justified if He had carried out the sentence of condemnation against every human being, or if he had carried out the judgment against Adam and Eve at the time. Lack of hearing the gospel message does not absolve a person of condemnation for sins committed against God.

There are actually two separate issues: 1. condemnation, 2. salvation.
1. All human beings come under condemnation for their sins, and the judgment has already been pronounced, John 3:18, Romans 2:12-16. The condemnation is just, even if human beings have never heard a salvation message or even if God had not provided a means of salvation. No human being has the right to stand before God and claim that their condemnation was unjust or unfair.
2. Condemnation is a state of death that has already been pronounced against every human being, in which an individual has no ability to respond to God or to present a defense of their position, while Salvation is the cessation of condemnation and the impartation of life, John 3:17-21, John 5:24-29. God is capable of providing the gospel message to any true seeker under any circumstance. There are examples in the New Testament of that occurrence:

a. The Ethiopian and Philip:
    Acts 8:26-40
Not only was Philip miraculously given the instructions of where to meet the man, when the encounter was
over, he was miraculously transported to his next destination at Azotus.
b. Cornelius the centurion and the apostle Peter:
    Acts 10
c. The Macedonian vision of the apostle Paul resulting in the conversion of Lydia:     Acts 16:6-15.

Accepting a belief in an alternative method to obtain salvation will always lead to some form of Universalist doctrine, in which everyone will eventually make it there, but not based on the biblical doctrines of salvation.

Answer
I truly hope The answer is a resounding YES.

If we believe that "salvation" is the only escape from hell It would be eternally difficult to serve a God who would create people with the sole finality of eternal torment without ever giving them a choice in the matter.

You would have to be either ignorant or stupid to believe that every person on this planet since 30 A.D. has heard the "gospel" of Christ Jesus.

With the lack of this teaching, those deprived of the "gospel" would have neither choice nor chance for salvation from the eternal torment God has set for these lost and unfortunate souls.

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT:
Another twist on the Universalist argument that ignores the reality that no human being has an inherent right to salvation and that every human being has already been judged and is condemned to hell as a result of their sins. It is only by the grace of God that any person hears the gospel. The Universalist argument assumes a God who is incompetent in dealing with human beings in this life, and must rectify His failure in the next life, in order to bring salvation to every human being. The reality is, that Universalist beief is an escape hatch, whereby it is assumed that if the person does not get it quite right in this life, they can assure themselves that there is another chance after death by which they will not fail again.

I don't know about obtaining salvation, but certainly, Christianity is based on Christ's love for us and our choice to love him. If someone has not heard the gospel and has never heard of Jesus Christ, why would God hold that against them? Do babies who die go to hell? Do people deep in the jungles of Africa or anywhere else for that matter who have never heard of Jesus go to hell? My God is fair and just.

Answer
I struggled with that a bit, only because I have talked to people as well as heard testimony from others that they got saved by seeing Jesus in a dream revealing Himself to them. I was going to put a yes and a no, but I have to go with no, because even those Jews and Muslims whom I have talked to that are born again, and had had this experience, they like Paul, knew the gospel without "hearing" the gospel, but rather "seeing" the gospel. What I ask them about their salvation, they doctrinally get it right. Miraculous events aside, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God and that one cannot receive the gospel of salvation without first recognizing that thay are a sinner on the basis of the moral law of God, the 10 Commandments. There is no other name given among men under heaven whereby they must be saved that at the name of jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue confess to the glory of God.

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT:
The question about people who have never heard the gospel message has always been a sore point for many people, however, the Scripture does deal with the issue. There are two instances in which true seekers were rewarded by hearing the gospel message under miraculous circumstances. 1. The Ethiopian eunuch Acts 8:26-40. God miraculously provided the assistance of Philip in order to bring the gospel message to a person who had not heard about Jesus Christ. In fact, after the incident, at a point someplace between Jerusalem and Gaza, Philip was miraculously transported to Azotus in order to continue his ministry there, vs. 40. 2. Cornelius the centurion. Acts 10:1-48. He was miraculously given the information about where to find Peter who would give him the message of the gospel: "They said, 'Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing man well spoken of by the entire nation of the Jews, was divinely directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and hear a message from you,'" vs. 22. I think that in the familiarity of those two incidents we sometimes fail to see the point that God is capable of providing the gospel message to whom He chooses without resorting to another means of salvation or a secondary presentation of the gospel after death. There are many resources on the On Doctrine website, so please come back again for a visit.

Welcome to On Doctrine.
Thank you for your visit and message on the Current Question Answer page.

Just a note for you to consider in relation to your answer.

If salvation is granted by God based on what He determines that a person would have done had they  heard the gospel, then the entire point of spreading the gospel message becomes pointless, because God can make that determination in relation to every human being.

Salvation is not just going to heaven and it is not granted in the afterlife but is received in this life. Salvation is reconciliation to God by means of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ which is the message of the gospel preached in this life.

God is capable of providing the gospel message to any true seeker under any circumstance and He does not need to resort to making a decision based on the creation of a fantasy life for an individual which never exists.

There are examples in the New Testament where God miraculously provided the gospel message to those who were true seekers:
a. The Ethiopian and Philip:
    Acts 8:26-40
Not only was Philip miraculously given the instructions of where to meet the man, when the encounter was
over, he was miraculously transported to his next destination at Azotus.
b. Cornelius the centurion and the apostle Peter:
    Acts 10
c. The Macedonian vision of the apostle Paul resulting in the conversion of Lydia:
     Acts 16:6-15.

Accepting a belief in an alternative method to obtain salvation will always lead to some form of Universalist doctrine, in which everyone will eventually make it there, but not based on the biblical doctrines of salvation.

Plainly know.

Logically, how can one be saved and not have KNOWLEDGE of what they are saved from?

Scriptually, Romans 8 declares that the God has is the determing factor in every individuals salvific experience.  Ephesians the first Chapter show us the trinity's work on our behalf siting the Will of the Father, the Work of the Son and the Seal of the Spirit all AFTER having heard the GOSPEL Message.

Answer
No. However, God is loving, gracious and just. If God reveals Himself through Jesus to you without other Christians speaking the gospel first you will be saved. In this case He has truly heard your longing to know the Master and Maker of everything around you and directed you to find out more about who Jesus is and what he does for you. If you put your faith in what God has revealed to you, you have been blessed like Abraham.

Whoever directed you to this website has done so because God is continuing to reveal himself to them. Put your faith in Jesus because YOU have been blessed with knowing of his grace through that person.

Thank you for your visit and message on the Contact page.

I presume, because of the verses you have selected, that you believe that salvation is obtained by good works; doing those things that you believe will commend you to God so that He will find you to be acceptable.

However, you must deal with the issue found in Matthew 7:21-23, Where Jesus Christ states that there will be many people who will appear before Him to be judged, seemingly having done some very good things in the name of Jesus Christ (prophesied, cast out demons and performed many miracles), yet they were rejected because their works were evil. From a human standpoint, they were justified, but from the perspective of Jesus Christ they were condemned.

Jesus Christ also said:

"'Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins,'" John 8:24.

Jesus Christ is the expert authority regarding salvation, so I will remain with what He teaches about the means of salvation in relation to Himself.

Answer
No!, Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ!

Romans 1,2 describe the condemnation of those who live simply according to their own conscience. Man's depravity keeps man from seeing and hearing and coming to God.

Answer
No, The New Covenant is manifested in God's people by them coming to know Jesus Christ as their personal savior. One must know to believe and therefore to believe one must first heasr the contents of and understand the object in which he believes.

Salvation is the act of God in which HE sovereignly choses to reveal Himself to a fallen individual by effectually calling him/her via the gospel of Jesus Christ. One has to understand his/her own sinfulness and their need for being saved form judgment. This individual is granted spiritual understanding according to 1 Cor. 2 and comes to see Jesus Christ as the righteous God given provision for his/her own sin. This is how one is GRANTED salvation and it must come from hearing and confessing (agreeing with God).

Answer
The first thing that needs to be looked at is, what does knowing Jesus Christ mean? I knew of him before I was saved, but just didn't have a personal relationship with him. Jesus said that he is the way, the truth and the life and no man could go to God but through him. What does that mean? We have to be saved before we can go to heaven. How are we saved? The bible says that if we believe in our hearts that God riased Jesus from the dead and we confess that fact with out mouths, we are saved. The bible says that we are saved by grace through faith. Not of ourselves, but it is a gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast.

The Holy Spirit of God is the one who draws a person to Christ. We are all taught the basics of what is right and what is wrong by our parents. There comes a time when they are no longer accountable for our actions. At this point we become free moral agents. We then have what we call common sense and free will. The bible talks about how nature even teaches us things. My answer to this question is yes because through the Holy Spirit of God, God speaks to hearts. Look at the following scripture.

Zechariah 4:6
6. Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

Everything that God does is through His Spirit. What most people don't realize is that Jesus' purpose was to reunite us with God, Because of what Adam did Jesus had to reconcile us back into the good graces of God. He saved us. Salvation is there already. All we have to do is accept it. God will call, but it is up to each person to surrender to that call.

Virginia, United States

Answer
No, I don't believe that. It is THE SPIRIT OF GOD that draws us near, so obviously you will need to hear either the word of God or about his great love and mercy/compassion or know him.

Answer
The answer is a big NO.The Bible tells us that if anyone confesses with their mouth & believes in their hearts that Jesus is Lord & that God raised Him from the dead,he shall be saved. This is a very powerful chapter about salvation & I'd advice everyone who reads this message to read that chapter for more clearity. That scripture makes it clear that one "must" first believe & confess that Jesus is Lord and that He was raised from the dead,so it's very clear that one cannot believe in Jesue if they have no idea of Him.Another point is we have to understand that salvation starts with Jesus dying for our sins, which makes it clear  that salvation starts "with understanding the great love God expressed on calvary through Jesus"(John3:16;15:13).Thank you.

Before answering this, I want to bring to Face; the storie of Adam and Eve. for one to truely lovhe people, their Worlde to live in should have been Totally a gift for them, with no Hinges of or Possibilities of What is DEATHE: who ever created them propositioned for their Fear, a tree that could Demise of them or that the Creator who ever Would kill them himself: of no Purpose and for no Lovhe of or Eternity to know of love Help, whoever created them brought them to Eden and created against their postarities a Tree of no love to know of against them for Amusement Doom. The Bible clearly states in Judgement,, "WOE, to the man that builds a City in doom(or in blood) him who ladeleth himself in thick Clay[or in a thick protection]," and also, "woe to him that Coveteth unto himself an Evil Thing of Horror against good people; so that Evil[due Reciprocitie against WOE created] cannot come to his house(the person of WOE) to take them away." Horror of Woe a travesty problem is in the Bible. Humans and People are of the Letter, esteimed as Nothing: Love did not have Hand in making this Earth. Because if it did, where are Deserts and Spiders? of Arctic Temperatures,,,? There is not would ever have been found not one Tombstone or Cemetary. That the Bible says, there is no Fear in Love, there should not even be that evil Tree of the knowlege of "good".. fake good: and Evil. So when you are ready to Adress the Worlde of This your True God, a Killer Creator, then if you be answered of any "Salvation" to have to have "or Else", then you wlll be answered!

Answer
The gospel was first told to Adam and Eve in Genesis and continues to be expanded all the way through to the New Testament and the Apostles and their writings that we have in the Bible, today.

For those came before Christ, they were saved looking forward to the coming Messiah and believing those promises of God, of the coming Messiah.

For those who came after, they looked back to the finished work of Jesus, the Messiah, on the cross.

So, for each group, it was looking to the same thing, but from a different time period (either before - looking forward, or afterwards - looking back to the cross).

The Apostle Paul, said of Abraham, in Romans 4:17-20 and for us, in particular, verses 23-25...

17 (as it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations") in the presence of Him whom he believed--God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;

18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "So shall your descendants be."

19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb.

20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

22 And therefore "it was accounted to him for righteousness."

So, Abraham, "being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform" -- "it was accounted to him for righteousness". That was Abraham.

And with us -- using Abraham for an example, Paul says --

23 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him,

24 but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead,

25 who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.

We have come after Abraham and also after the Messiah, and so, "it shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification."

Hence we believe in the same way and manner as Abraham, although we know more than Abraham did. Both groups (before and after the Messiah) are saved and are "justified" for believing God in what He has promised and has done.

I hope that explains it for everyone and for *all generations* in the world, before and after.

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT:
It is true that the Old Testament believers did not have as much knowledge about the means of salvation and the person who would accomplish it because we have the record of the accomplishment while they had limited revelation as to the future fulfillment, howeer, Abraham knew much more about salvation and jesus Christ than any other person in the Old Testament. Abraham was given a unique view into the future and the incident was described by jesus Christ:

"Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad," John 8:56.

Answer
Yes, because salvation is in the hand's of our Lord, Jesus Christ. It is totally up to Him who get's in Heaven and who does not. The question is not if we know Him but it is does He know us. He said no man come's to the Father but by the Son. It is in His hands. Some people, like, Native Americans circa, 5th century had no way of knowing about Christ unless they were told by an Angel or by our Lord Himself. In that case their faith in Him may well be in play but if they had never heard of Him or never heard of God at all they may be saved by following whatever God gave to them through their honest heart. Any man at any time who has an honest heart toward God can have grace. It is up to Jesus. It is also written, "To whom much is given, much is required". That imply's this "To whom little is given. little is required.

The bottom line is still this: Salvation is the work of God and it is totally in His hand's. He can grant Salvation to whom ever He desires for what is impossible to man is possible to God and He said... "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy".

God is good and merciful He get's no pleasure in sending someone to Hell. It would make no sense at all for God to have whole nations of men live their lives, die and go to Hell without God lifting a finger to help them. That is not the God of mercy that I know.
He also said to Peter. On this rock I will build My Church and the gates of Hell will not prevail against It". The conversation was that Jesus asked Peter who He was and Peter told Him that He was the Christ. Then Jesus told Peter that he was Peter and on this rock I will build my Church..." The rock He built His Church on is the personal relationship of us knowing Him and He knowing us. That is the rock... Peter is not the rock. It is what Christianity is... a relationship. I hold the belief that one who has never heard the name Jesus can still know Him and have a personal relationship with Him if one come's to God, in prayer, with an honest heart. In that case salvation can be had by one who has never been preached to by the word of man. God can do it.

Answer
According to scripture a person must believe in the Lord Jesus Christ in order to obtain salvation. By believing , I mean Accepting Christ as your personal saviour, and trusting Him fully for all your needs. I am a believer in the Sovereign will of God, and believe that had He not called me then I would have remained on the "Broad road" thinking that this must be the way due to the large number on this road! For many years prior to my accepting Jesus, I believed that I wasn't such a bad sinner tending to compare myself to others. It was not until the Holy Spirit convicted me of my sins that I came to realize that I was a gross sinner and that I needed to repent and turn away from sin and accept that Jesus paid for my sins on the cross, and rose again the third day. Yes I needed a Saviour. The apostle Paul stated that he was "the chief of sinners" and I felt that I was on a par with him, or probably worse. I find it awesome that the Sovereign Lord, the creator of all things would become flesh and dwel [portion lost in transmission]

I also believe that God knew all persons before creation, and predestined some to eternal life. God is always in control of all things and I believe that salvation of sinful man is ultimately for the glory of God. I would like to add that it is my belief that all infants who die are taken to be with the Lord. King David believed it of his son born to Bathsheba. I had a dear son born in [date removed] who unfortunately had his head crushed by forceps during birth, resulting in a massive cerebral hemorrhage, causing cerebral palsy. Such a sweet child. He went to be with the Lord shortly after his [year removed] birthday. His life was a very very tough , painful one. The reason I believe that he is with the Lord, is because he was Predestined for salvation, and not because of his not sinning himself, although I am well aware that all humans are born with a sinful nature. I know in my heart that I will see him again,as a result of God removing the "blindness" from my eyes and giving me the faith to believe in His Son. I firmly believe that I may have remained on the "broad road" had I not had my dear son. For I believe that as a result I learned to be more compassionate, and to appreciate how dear life is, and most importantly that I found Christ, and I know that all believers will dwell with Him for all eternity and will then experience abundant life. As Jesus said "I have come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly".

The answer is no. As a student in Theology, I am foregoing scriptural reference. There is not enough room in this box to provide an explicated, thorough answer from the Bible. However, I have noticed an emphasis on "hearing the Gospel." And references elluding to someone who may not actively "know" the Gospel or "know" what is stated in the Bible.

Saul grew up learning Jewish Law, he learned Greek, and Latin. At the time, he was a zealous persecuter of those who followed the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. Yet, he received the gospel & directly from Christ. He changed his name to the Apostle Paul. For Paul, his authority was Christ as revealed directly to him.

I think we have to be careful with our choice of words. Personally, I knew very little "about" the Gospel and I knew very little "about" Christ. But one day, I "heard the Gospel" and in that moment "I knew Christ" as He revealed himself directly to my heart and soul. Hence my studies to this day of the Bible. I do not critique in any way the one answer that is front to cover in the scripture. Salvation is only through Christ, yet how Christ reveals the Gospel isn't always one way.

No! Read John chapter 3 verses 15 through 18.

15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoesover believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Faith comes by hearing, hearing the word of God.

It's faith believing the word of God and receiving the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour who died on the cross for our sins and healed us from our infirmaties. To repent of our sins and ask for forgivness in Jesus Name. Then ask him to come into our hearts and receive him as our personal Lord and Saviour.
Believing in God alone will not save you. You have to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour and believe he is the Son of the living God. It is so simple, but man makes it sound so difficult to receive salvation. Believe what he did at the cross for us! Confess it! Ask for forgivness! He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins! Receive Him! And see how the spirit of God changes you! You won't change....you can't change....only through Christ and the help of the Holy Spirit can you change. Study the word of God and let his word speak to you. Scripture says "My sheep know my voice." And you will know his voice because it will always line up with the word of God! Not any strange voices telling you to do stupid or harmful things to yourself or others. It will be a peace beyond understanding..

Absolutely,on the last day, will not the prophets and kings such as moses and david be raised to serve God in his Kingdom?

Yet where is it written that they heard the gospel or knew Jesus Christ? surely these faithful servants' salvation is assured.

Answer
Not even a little bit, because if you dont hear the gospel one will not believe it. And if you dont know Jesus you dont know God and if you dont know God you cant have the Holy Spirit because all three are one not 3 separate offices. God and spirit are the same, flesh and blood cannot enter the kingdom of god, and Son is Jesus. See God's divinity fused with his humanity and that is where you get Jesus. So now if you dont know Jesus you cannot be saved from this crooked generation and false teachers.

17 (as it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations") in the presence of Him whom he believed--God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;
18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "So shall your descendants be."
And with us -- using Abraham for an example, Paul says --
23 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, 24 but also for us.

Answer
YES YES, of course.
Hard to swallow, but true. I know; I was there myself once.
Don't believe everything you have heard without checking it out.

The problem most have is not knowing the definition of "salvationi".
It is not always referring to regeneration, but often refers to "deliverance".
Don't believe me, look it up in a concordance. Thank the KJV (King Jimmy) for much of this problem.

If you have to hear the gospel to be regenerated, then, by definition, you have to do a WORK, no?. This also means that no infants or feeble minded can be regenerated, and all of them are doomed to hell.
Forget the "special plan" for these....it's not in the Bible. Sounds nice though.

2 Tim 3:16 lists the purpose of the Gospel, and "regeneration" in any word form is not there. Shouldn't it be there? Shouldn't it be first, if so? Enough said. This alone would be enough.

NOTE***ALL the other answers on this question here assume that the word salvation always means regeneration. If this were so, then, of course, I would be dead wrong, but I'm not.

Regeneration is a direct operation of the Holy Ghost. Since it is a spiritual thing, and since natural man rejects things of the Spirit, the gospel can never serve towards elevating natural men to a state of spirituality. Belief of the gospel is not a cause of spiritual birth; rather, it is a manifestation of such birth (Jn 1:11-13, Jn 5:24, Jn 8:43-47, Jn 10:25-27, Acts 13:48, 1Cor 1:18, Gal 5:22-23, 1Thes 1:4-5).

The scriptures teach certain infants have experienced spiritual birth (Ps 8:2, Ps 22:9, Mt 11:25, Mt 21:16, Lk 1:15, Lk 1:41) even though infants are incapable of receiving the preached word. However, the scriptures offer no support to the theory that infants are spiritually quickened by means other than adults. Indeed, the opposite is suggested (Mk 10:15). Nor do the scriptures teach a different scheme of spiritual quickening for those in Old Testament times. There is but one method of spiritual quickening that can be common to all; namely, by direct operation of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus taught that those dead in trespasses and sins would be quickened by the power of his voice (Jn 5:25-29). In this same context it is taught this voice will also raise the bodily dead at the end of time. A man can give the words of Christ but not His voice, and as Christ will not use man to raise the bodily dead, neither does He use man to raise the spiritually dead.

If it were the purpose of the gospel to accomplish spiritual birth in natural men, then the gospel should be most urgently directed toward the nonspiritual. In fact, this is not its principal direction in the scriptures (2Thes 3:1-3, Rom 15:31, Acts 18:9-10).

Though the Spirit produces life without the means of the preached word, it is the gospel which brings this life and immortality to light (Rom 1:16-17, 2Tim 1:9-10).

What is the gospel for, you ax?

The gospel establishes believers in truth, convicts them of their sins, and leads them to repentance (Ps 119:9-11, Acts 17:30-31, Col 1:3-6, 2Tim 3:16-17) that God may be glorified, both by their profession and works (Mt 5:16, Acts 13:48, Rom 15:8-9, 1Cor 6:20, Philip 2:9-11, 2Thes 1:12, 2Thes 3:1).

The gospel is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth (Rom 1:16, 1Cor 1:18, 1Cor 1:23-24), in that it delivers those quickened by the Spirit from the darkness of Satan unto the light of Christ (Jn 8:12, Jn 12:46, Acts 13:47, 1Jn 1:5), and leads them to the intelligible discovery of their Savior (1Cor 14:24-25), and transforms them toward the example of His life (2Cor 3:18, Philip 2:5-11, 1Jn 2:6), all of which will be brought to perfection at His glorious appearing (1Cor 15:51-57, Philip 3:20-21, 1Jn 3:2).

All other forms of knowledge are inferior to the gospel (Philip 3:8-11), and without the gospel there can be no true worship (Jn 4:24, Jn 5:22-23).

The gospel is inherently evangelical. All who are blessed to have it are commanded to teach it to others also (Mt 5:14-16, Mt 10:27, 2Tim 4:1-6, 1Pet 3:15), and this should be the happy task of all who love God's truth and His children.

I hope this eye opener, which is historical Christanity, causes some eyes to open.

Obviously the answer is No, Yeshua clearly said, No man comes to the Father but by Me. There are many, many testimonies, of people who have dreams about Yeshua (Jesus). Fascinating, mostly in countries where the Gospel ( Good News) is forbidden. But even here in the USA. Most don't know what to do about it, until they hear from a Christian. Isn't GOD good, we need to be mindful to proclaim his word whenever possible. Something I have been really convicted of lately (because I don't very often). I mean GOD is even sending them to us.
Sadly, many are preaching today, many of the TV Preachers, that there is 2 ways. The Law is the Jews Salvation, the Gospel is for the rest (Gentiles). They are all for Israel, and are their buddies. But tell them it's OK, you have Torah (LAW), we have Yeshua. Are They really Israel's Buddies? So they are preaching another Gospel. We Love you Israel, just keep going to Hell without your Messiah, but we love you.
Remember everyone the message has not changed, to the Jew FIRST and also to the World. Let us do all we can to hurry our LORD's return, Talk to the JEW about the Jewish Messiah. Support Real Ministries to Israel. Yeshua, and Yeshua alone, for there is no other name under heaven in which a man CAN be saved.
Thanks for reminding us there is DOCTRINE. Truth is above emotions, what a great thing to finally know.

God does whatsoever He pleases, and He certainly can choose to save babies, severely mentally retarded people, and others incapabable even of communicating with others. A person obtains salvation by changing his mind about Jesus Christ. Turning from a sinful life to a life in Jesus Christ.

IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO TURN FROM SIN; WE MUST TURN UNTO GOD.

HEARING THE WORD OD GOD AND BELIEVING THE MESSAGE WILL SOMETIMES TURN A MANS HEART TOWARD GOD.

Repentance is not something we can do ourselves without asking God to perform this work of grace in our hearts.

THE CHASTISEMENTS OF GOD SOMETIMES BRINGS PEOPLE TO REPENTANCE.

GOD SOMETIMES USES FAMILY, FRIENDS AND BROTHER'S AND SISTER,S IN CHRIST TO BRING OTHERS BACK TO GOD OR TO GOD.

REPENT AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST.--ACTS 2:38

Answer
Yes a person can. I know that you have heard all manner of things reguarding this issue. I agree with what the bible states concerning salvation. Yeat it should also be pointed out that Gods mind has never been fully searched out on all issues. When a person is born they are born in many conditions. All accountable to sin. When some people are born they will pass away as children, others will pass away having minds as children. We have all met them. Some call them slow, some call them retarded, we will just call them special. When reading the scriptures we should consider that our God is not foolish nor is he a nut. He is not unjust and he is not with out mercy. These can't read the word, they can even hear the word sometimes and they can't be subject to any just judgement as such. So then what would be the answer to this problem.
We of the faith are first and formost with out foundation to declare all things. The word of God states that all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory. Every person on the earth is accountable to sin even at birth. In the Holy Bible we find it writen: all who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Again: All who believe upon the Lord shall be saved.
We also find the account of Jesus desending into hell to preach the gosple to the captives. If you will research that a bit it also states at the end of the age. What age would that be, the age of salvation. Best i can determine Christ stepped over to the end of the age of salvation when he went to hell and preached the gosple to all the people in hell. So salvaiton and the gosple are preached to all the people in hell. And it is Jesus who is preaching to them.
But it is still correct that we just do not know all things. That is why it is called faith sometimes. What purpose does God have to send a 1 week old baby to hell. He has not reached the age of reason or accountability. We might learn a little from the Jewish faith in reguards to this. There young men become men at a certian age. And become accounable at that time for knowing the Law and word of God. The youth in the bible are never shown as wicked and never called sinners per say.
Again we also must consider the unborn. Those who lives were cut short and never recieved life as in being allowed to live. These people died and had no personnel sin. They died because of the sins of others. Did God send a preborn soul to hell. Indeed not!
So when we consider the Gosple and the instruction of the word of God we also have to consider the whole application of the word of God. God is not this stone faced figuare setting on a thrown trying to send people to hell. He is a all loving God full of mercy and love. He is mercyful and just in all his ways and he is also a greatly unknown. His ways are higher then our ways. And no one has searched the mind of God in fullness.
So not only are we deaf and blind most of the time, we be stupid as well concerning most things. God has promised us our families to a thousand generations. Much is done by prayer. I have not made my mind up as to the thousand generations being a blessing or a curse! But i know that God is love and no wickedness is found in him. So sinners have to be saved. The bible tells us how that happens and what is required. The bible tells us that all have or will hear the gosple. But i am not willing to declare my wisdom above the wisdom of God. Nor will i accuse God of a unrightious act.
A sign of true wisdom is when you can say you know we do everything under the sun. We know in part and understand in part. I think we in the body of Christ need to get back to a point of true humility, true humility is were our love overtakes our minds and we allow Love to answer a world of suffering. So can a person be saved with out hearing the gosple?
Not so clear is it! I will ask Jesus one day. All this and more. A adult sure can't be saved with out hearing the gosple or wait a second. Does it not say all who call upon my name shall be saved. So a drunk in a toilet can be saved if he calls upon the name of the Lord Jesus. A drug user can be saved just by calling on the name of Jesus. I noticed it did not say they had to know Jesus. Nor did it say they had to know all the Gosple. Any person that is moved by the Holy Spirit to call upon the name of Jesus shall be saved upon calling on the name of the Lord Jesus. That is how it works. The Holy Spirit is who moves people to salvation. Jesus said all whom the Father gives me are mine. The time he Brings them into the Kingdom is up to him. So yes a person can be saved with out hearing the gosple or Jesus. Some people come in just knowing the name and never knowing the Person or his gosple. This is the great power of that name. That is why Jesus rebulked the apostles for wanting to stop other people teaching and using the name Jesus. Jesus forbid that they should stop them. God works in ways we can't always explain.

A Child or infant, even though born with a fallen nature, who is unable to comprehend the gospel, would most certainly have instant access to heaven in the event of their demise. Their is no other name given under heaven whereby we may be saved, except Jesus. As far as those who have never had an oppotunity to hear, well, Jesus went and preached to the dead when he died on the cross. I beleive God holds people accountable for what they know and for their deeds. But it looks grim for those who do not receive the Gift og God, Salvation in Christ.

Can a person obtain salvation without hearing the gospel or knowing Jesus Christ?

Can I ask you this? Can a person enter a house without using the door? Yes, they can break in some other way.

Jesus said ...
Joh 10:7 Then Jesus said to them again, "Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
Joh 10:8 All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.
Joh 10:9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

They may think they are saved and know God but they will be cast into outer darkness, outside the Holy City...no wedding garment...how did you get in here friend. If it was'nt through the door/Jesus, but some other way...then out of here!

1Co 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand,
1Co 15:2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you unless you believed in vain.
1Co 15:3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
1Co 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

There it is folks, saved through receiving the truth of the gospel...which they had preached to them...HOLD FAST BRETHREN! Things are going to get even more wierd doctrinally.

"In the name of Jesus Christ" means that the person first hears about the personality behind that name and then accepts him as his or her personal saviour.

Part of the Gospel is generally recognized to be that by trusting in the atoning sacrifice of Jesus on the cross as payment for our sins we will not die but we will spend eternity with Him in heaven.

By "hearing" is generally understood "hearing from a human source".

In Luke 16:25-26, Abraham is clearly spending eternity in heaven.

But Abraham lived and died before Jesus life on earth.

Therefore Abraham obtained salvation without hearing the gospel or knowing Jesus Christ (via a human source, at least).

Answer
QUESTION: Can a person obtain salvation without hearing the gospel or knowing Jesus Christ?

No, but everyone WILL eventually hear the true gospel plan of salvation before making their choice to accept or reject Jesus! So the question is a moot point.

We have been taught that the following verse means one must accept or reject Jesus Christ before one dies to either be saved and go to Heaven or unsaved and spend eternity in the agony of hell:

For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. (II Corinthians 6:2)

Let's consider some of these lost souls which are consigned to the alleged eternal punishment in hellfire. There are the billions or trillions who never even heard the name Jesus. What about everyone who lived before Jesus was even born? Absolutely none of these people were ever given a choice to accept or reject Jesus as their Savior before their death! The good news of the gospel was never explained to them. Is this a fair and just system? Is God fair and just or truly vindictive as many would have us believe?

Great and marvelous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. (Revelation 15:3)

So God is indeed just and true, but the only path to salvation remains through Jesus Christ:

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)

Will the multitudes who have died never having even heard the name of Jesus unjustly suffer? Absolutely not! Consider the following verse:

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: (Deuteronomy 30:19)

Only after the true gospel message has been set before each person can that person truly choose between eternal life and the second death as described above. Those who have died without ever hearing the name Jesus could not make their choice! Let's consider the phrase "now is the day of salvation" in greater detail. What day do we actually live in? In a broader sense, what age do we live in? We are living in the age of man. Man was given dominion over the earth in the Genesis creation, so mankind rules today's earth! Man's will is being done on earth, not God's. In fact, the first request we are instructed to pray for in the Lord's Prayer is for God's will to be done on earth:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10)

So today we are in the age of man or the day of man. This entire day or age of man is the accepted time in which men may seek salvation. The majority of humans will have two periods of life with physical bodies on the earth. Every human who ever lived will be resurrected. However, only those with their names written in the book of life will be resurrected as immortal spiritual bodies:

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life... (Daniel 12:2)

Two body types are defined in the Bible, physical and spiritual:

There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. (I Corinthians 15:44)

The many that sleep in the dust of the earth are all humans who have died and been buried. The some that awake to everlasting life are Christians who are born again as spirits and thus awake to eternal life. Those not awakened to everlasting life as spiritual bodies must be awakened as the only remaining body type which is natural or physical. These are resurrected as the same human body type in which they lived and died their first physical death on the earth. Since men are still alive after the resurrections, that time is still within the day of man, and salvation can be attained then! As long as any one human is alive, that human can accept Jesus Christ and be saved. The New Testament requirement for salvation does not mention any time limitations. While it is true that men must accept or reject Jesus before they die, men truly die at their second death, not their first! Man's first death is spoken of as sleep or rest in the Bible. We rest in peace. Therefore, resurrected nonbelievers can accept Jesus and be born again as immortal spiritual beings into the Kingdom of God up to their second death! They will be taught the true gospel message of salvation for the first time with Satan locked away. Those who still reject Jesus will be cast into hell and suffer their second physical death. Their death will be instaneous.

Those suffering the second death never live again. Their death is eternal, not the torment of dying! When did this age or day of man begin? It began when man was created and given dominion over the earth as described in Genesis. When will the age of man end? It will end when there are no more men. This occurs after the great white throne judgment. After completion of this judgment every human being will have either been born again as a spiritual body or cast into the lake of fire and suffered the second death. There will be no more humans and there never will be again. Therefore, the age of man is over:

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:15)

This verse describes what the Bible calls the second death. This marks the end of our age. Man can no longer be saved because there are no more men after the last nonbeliever is cast into the fire. The age of Jesus Christ's rule on earth now begins. This new age will last for eternity.

There are always reasons for God's actions. The reasons are never hatred or revenge, because God is love. God is not raising nonbelievers from the dead simply to humiliate them before they suffer their second death! Why resurrect them at all if that was the case? They are being resurrected for a reason. It is their chance to choose, their day of salvation. It is the first opportunity for most of them!

Answer
Absolutely. your question seems to imply that hearing and knowing are the same but anyone who is married knows that is just not true.

in matthew 25:34-40 it simple to notice that riteous people are saved... not christians. it is also plain to see there are those who do not know they are saved that will be and others that think they are but are not so.

the gospel never reached the americas for over a thousand years after christ... so then tell me how would a god made of love be able to cast his creation into hell when they had neither law of gospel. nothing to condem them, so nothing to redeem them. but sin they still need redemption. yes they are born into sin but like us all... innocently so.

salvation was established on the cross. the gospel is the news of gods new revelation. that truth sets you free. by default not accepting it you are in hostility towards god... not by your choice. but what if some hypocritcal preacher tells you about hte gospel and their view of god and you reject the god he preaches... does that mean you reject god. surely your fate wouldn't be in the hands of a hypocryte (assuming he was, and there are some).

but that means what it comes down to is that god knows us all individually and it is only the spirit that can minister to anyone, even through a preacher and if it is not. and the only one that can save is the lord. and to think that a man that has by default learned and seen more of a worldy system, living in the world, then god in heaven; then i would say it is hericy to think that that individual along with his finite attributes can fully grasp and inturpret the never ending love of the sovereign god. !

Answer
The correct answer is "No". It is only from the Scriptures that we understand all that we can understand about God Himself. That's THEOLOGY. And as we consider the Scriptures in the light of what is revealed in them, we can then consider what He wants us to adopt as DOCTRINE for His people. Doctrine that's based on defective theology will be defective doctrine, and that can lead us to conclude that the God who sent His Son to die for us has some way, method, or provision than the Son. He does not. We hear little about the two terms "orthodoxy" and "heterodoxy", but they should be taught to individuals and congregations everywhere. I thank our God that most of these answers are based on sound Scriptural understandings of God and the sound doctrine. And that is "orthodoxy".

Answer
God is the savior of all men and Jesus is the savior the body (as Christ if the head and the body is the church), So there is a salvation for all men. Inside the Church, Christ is the authority, they are within the Law of Christ.

People who don't have the capacity to understand the law like Mongoloid, mentally ill people or even children .. cannot be condemned,

People who did not reach the existence of the word of God, the Bible cannot be condemned,

People who live where the Bible is not yet established or on the process of creating ..cannot be condemned

But for the people who see the truth and ignore it, the bible speaks of the truth about this people.

People who raised themselves, or think more that what is expected to them, the Bible speaks,

The people speaks against GOD, the SON and the HOLY GHOST, the Bible speaks,

False Prophet, People consider themselves as the Christ, people who leads people into wrong doing the Bible speaks,

We don t need any book for salvation, as other theologians books teaches personal interpretation not the word of God, God speak that do not add or subtract in the word of God but most of the theologian speaks on their idea and not the idea of God, the Bible speaks.

Bible is enough to speak the truth and to know the truth about salvation, Nothing more and Nothing Less

Answer
Definitely YES.

The question is "not refusing" to hear the gospel. It is clearly stated that the question is "without hearing". Let us leave this responsibility to GOD.

Romans 2:14 (King James Version)
14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

The Bible itself answers!!

Answer
I can't answer that question fully unless I'm sure what exactly you're asking. Knowing exactly what you're asking hinges on the meanings of a few words:

(1) Salvation--many would say that salvation is having one's soul saved from an eternity in hell. Others, such a group called "the brethren," define salvation as separation from the world.

(2) Gospel--In Greek "gospel" simply means "good news." By good news, I'll assume you're referring to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

(3) Knowing--What degree of acquaintance is knowing? For example, there are some shamanists who pray to Jesus Christ, and Mary, and a variety of Indian and African dieties. I would assume they don't know Jesus Christ. On the other hand, no one I know of has regular audible conversations with Jesus Christ, which I would have to have with someone to ordinarily say I "know" them. For the purpose of my answer I'll assume that by "know" you refer to someone who follows Jesus Christ's teachings.

Those things being mentioned then, I think I have two answers.

To someone who uses the term "salvation" to refer to escaping an eternal torment in hell, I should think the answer is yes. I've never seen anything in my bible reading to indicate that God leaves people in hell for eternity just because nobody happened to preach at them.

To one who uses "salvation" to refer to separation from the world, being "in it but not of it," my answer is no. There is no way that someone ignorant of the gospel and Jesus Christ could be practicing right living and separate from the evil of the world.

John 3:16,17 and 18 States, "for God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17) For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18) Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son."

In short you must first obtain the knowledge of the work done on the cross in order to know what you are being saved from and to what you are being saved to, in order to obtain salvation

Scotland

Answer
Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Salvation comes through Christ alone. He said that I am the way, the Truth, and the life. No man shall come to the Father, but through me. It is also important to realize that people are not going to hell because they never heard the gospel. People are going to hell because they have sinned againgst a Holy God. We have all broken God's Holy law, the Ten Commandments. We have told lies, stole, and Jesus said if you lust after a person you have committed adultery with that person in your heart. Jesus is the only one that can pay our fine. So as Christians we must spread the Gospel. Christ is the only way!!

Answer
Of course! One is not a Christian by claiming to be one or claiming to have accepted Jesus as his or her savior. A Christian is one who acts Christ-like! Buddist, Atheists, Hindu, Muslims all speak in tongues to me. When one speaks of love, one is Christian to me. Act decent and you will avoid hell right in the here and now.

A tricky question. No a person while alive on earth who has has not heard the gospel cannot obtain [ come into the knowledge of it]...But also, salvation is not based upon anything we do or not do even believing, but is based upon the eternal purpose of God in christ before the world began. So in actuality, the elect are saved before knowing about it and believing...

NO!

Answer
Sounds like a simple question. The obvious answer would be no. It's very difficult to answer this a definite yes or no. The bible says that God is a righteous judge. He is no respecter of persons. Yet there are people that never had a chance to hear the gospel or come to know Jesus Christ. This very issue is what caused Carlton Pearson his problems with a foundational Christian belief. I think Carlton went from one extreme to the other. He went from an exclusive gospel to an inclusive one. I think the truth, which it usually does. lies somewhere in the middle.

The bible tells us where much is known much is required. I believe that a righteous God either has to somewhere between the grave and heaven or hell offer opportunity to someone that has never heard the gospel or through his omniscience providentially not allow the gospel to be preached to people who he knows before hand would not accept it anyway. The bible doesn't give credence to either view but I believe in the righteousness of God. Like Job there is a lot we don't understand. I think we have to be honest with the world and say we don't. We know in part and prophecy in part. The fault with most preachers is that their egos or their religion cause them to make up answers to questions that they don't have the answers to. God forbid if we don't know something. We know a lot about God but we don't everything about Him. We do know there is no other name under heaven where men can be saved but Jesus. Is hearing the gospel on earth the only way to hear that name? I don't know. The old covenant saints in paradise got a chance to hear the gospel so that they could be judged righteously (I Peter 4:6). Those that don't hear the gospel or know Jesus will be judged righteously. That I do know.

Answer
The correct answer is no. Hearing alone will not in and of itself lead a person to redemption. God has to also call a person to repentance. Without this "call of God" redemption can not take place. The only thing we as humans can do in this whole process is accept or regect it, God leads and makes availible all that is needed. As for our loving God intentionally letting people go to hell? Romans 8:28-33 God calls and justifies as HE pleases, not as we dictate. Salvation will be given to those who "endure to the end" and "hold fast to". .

With out Christ there is no hope of salvation unless they are told they will not know
Florida, United States

Answer
NO. A person goes to hell, because of their sins. Without hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, it is impossible to know who is Jesus Christ. Without knowing the Gospel, it is impossible to know who and what we truly are before God.(Which is an ugly, wicked sinner that evokes God`s wrath, and only motivated God to condemn us.) And without knowing who and what we are before God, we will never understand the mercy and forgiveness which He gave through His work on the cross, bearing the wrath that was supposed to be for us. So, the answer is NO. Without the Gospel of reconciliation, there are no other way for a man to enter heaven. No one can be justified in God`s presence. Because, justification is by faith only, and faith comes by hearing, and hearing of the words of God. The kind of faith that saves, only comes from hearing the Gospel. And the respond of it.

Even in Old testament times, it is the same faith that saves. In which man is justified, only by grace and faith in the what God said will do in justifying man through His work. Proverb 16:6 And He did it by sending His one and only son to die on the cross. As an atonement for sins. Propitiation. Their salvation, is also obtain from the Gospel. The Gospel is not a new invention of the New Testament. It has been foreshadowed all along in the old Testament. (Isaac`s almost sacrificed, animals that was presented as a sacrifice for atonement, the first animal killed by God and its skin is used to cover Adam and Eve`s nakedness.)

There has never been anybody, who has ever lived, in times past. present, and future, that has been viewed righteous before God because of any redeeming values God sees in him/her. Except, for One that has come from God. God became flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. And it can only take God`s One and only Son to die on the cross bearing our wrath, in order to appease His holy righteous anger against us. And whomever repented of their sins and trust in Christ as their Lord and Savior is graced by God to received an eternal live in fellowship with the One and Only living God.

So, how can a person be saved, if they have make l
