DEFINITION OF THE MORMONS
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The Mormons or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is a religious organization having its main headquarters at Temple Square, Salt Lake City, Utah. It is a worldwide organization having missionaries and church organizations in every state and many foreign countries. The church has an organization consisting of a Presidency, Apostles, Prophets, the Seventies, Bishops, Priests, Elders and Teachers. The church believes in continuing revelation from god through the Presidency, Apostles and Prophets. The Aaronic Priesthood is claimed to have been conveyed to Joseph Smith from John the Baptist and the Priesthood of Melchizedek was restored by Peter, James and John after that. Although the church organization is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, the church believes that it received the promise, through a revelation, that Jesus Christ would return to earth one day and set up his kingdom at the original location of the first Mormon organization in Nauvoo, Illinois.

FOUNDER

Joseph Smith, born December 23, 1805 in Vermont, the first president, prophet, seer and revelator founded the church April 6, 1830. Joseph Smith was killed by a mob while he was incarcerated in the Carthage, Illinois jail, June 27, 1844.
