Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin ("Dad Hagin") are the two foremost proponents of the Positive Confession, Word of Faith, health, wealth and prosperity doctrines. Kenneth Hagin is the mentor and has been teaching longer, but Kenneth Copeland has taken his teaching and ministry to new heights, especially in his influence among Charismatic leaders. His ability to create an organization that receives untold millions of dollars from Christians who do not question or understand that his teachings are not based on Biblical doctrine, is truly distressing.

The error at the core of the teaching by Kenneth Copeland is that his doctrines make God subservient to the will and desires of man rather than man being subservient to the will of God. He teaches that the words that the believer speaks, accompanied by faith on the part of the believer, activate spiritual laws, binding God to honor the requests expressed in those words. Words, activating spiritual laws, cause God to act, thus he names his program The Believer's Voice Of Victory, because the voice, speaking the right words, is power. Words become a power in themselves instead of God being the power and source. God becomes a provider or supplier of everything that the believer wishes or desires, regardless of the will of God in relation to that believer, because God cannot refuse the proper request through use of the right words, as a consequence of the immutable spiritual laws.

Because Kenneth Copeland's teaching is man-centered instead of God-centered, its focus is on the desires and fulfillments of the fleshly nature of man rather than the spiritual relationship to God. Rather than the emphasis being on the fruits of the spirit found in Galatians 5:22, it is on the desires and wishes of the physical life; healing, wealth, houses, cars, debt elimination, personal fulfillment, self-esteem, appearance, clothing, control, position, power, prestige, status, etc., etc. When it is taught that a person can have these things, simply by making a demand of God, that He is bound and obligated to honor, then the attraction becomes irresistible. But, just as a moth is attracted to a flame and consumed in the resulting encounter, people will find that embracing the teaching of Kenneth Copeland may strip them of the wealth they already have, and may cause them to loose their soul by refusing to believe the true gospel of the Jesus Christ of the Bible, in favor of the Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland and the false gospel that is found in his teaching.

Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin could not continue with their obtuse teachings if it was not for the support of undiscerning Christians, and the acceptance of the doctrine of "continuing direct revelation from God". When continuing direct revelation is accepted, then the door is opened for every false and heretical teaching to enter into the church. Any person can teach any doctrine and claim that it is a revelation from God and no one can deny the authenticity of what is claimed. Even the Bible cannot be used (and is not used now) to deny the new revelations, because the definition of a revelation is that which was not revealed or known before; thus, a "new revelation" can be claimed for a concept that is different from Biblical values. The Christian church continues to accept the continuous claims of "revelations" and "direct conversations with God" that are claimed by teachers like Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin, not even questioning why they preach their sermons by new revelations from God instead of what has already been revealed in the Bible by real prophets who had real credentials confirming that what they said was true. The immoral world on the outside of the church can see these men for what they really are - so why can't the church see the same thing? Discernment is lost in the Christian church as "believers" rush to obtain the monetary and health blessings promised by these teachers.

And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? For what will a man give in exchange for his soul.?"
The Holy Bible, Mark 8:34-37 (NAS)

Kenneth Copeland exists in, and is accepted as a mainstream Christian by a large segment of the Christian church who have rejected the application of discernment in regards to teachers and leadership. They have substituted "feel good", self-satisfying sermons, emotions and a quest for the next spiritual "experience" as the criteria for acceptance into the Christian fellowship instead of Doctrine, as taught in the Bible, as being the measure of a leader or teacher. As a result, these "Christians" neither know what is Biblically correct or how what is taught in the Bible applies to what they accept in their own lives. As a result, false teaching is the norm instead of the exception.

False prophecies are also the norm in the word of faith movement, however Kenneth Copeland has been somewhat more reserved in that area, apparently preferring not to place himself in the position of having to explain the difficulty when a false prophecy is spoken. However, there are times when Kenneth Copeland waxes bold and presumes to speak a prophetic word from God, and in the process makes a great error. In attempting to play on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States, Kenneth Copeland spoke the following regarding those embracing the Muslim religion:
"And there are going to be multiplied millions upon millions, there's going to be close to a billion people that have been trapped in that religion, that over the next few months are gonna to come into the kingdom of God. (cheering) That's gonna happen, you watch and see what I'm telling you. Because its been ... I'm telling you Satan's fat is in the fire he pushed it over the line, and God has moved, and for over a hundred years the United States has been an instrument of judgment in the hand of God. That's one of the reasons we're blessed, amen? I'd like to get in there and walk around a while but I don't have the time but I can tell you this, that thing has come to an end, its over, I'm talking about Islam and every, all that that stands for. That's over with. Now, God is making His move."
Kenneth Copeland, Word of Life Christian Center, Honolulu HI, Dedication Celebration Service, Evening, Dec. 2, 2001

It has been more than a "few" months since his prophecy and the promised revival has not happened. Kenneth Copeland proved himself a false prophet according to Deuteronomy 18:20- 22.

MAJOR DOCTRINAL ISSUES

MAJOR DOCTRINAL BELIEFS OF
KENNETH COPELAND

In Relation To God's Existence
  1. God has a body.

God is a "spirit-being with a body, complete with eyes, and eyelids, ears, nostrils, a mouth, hands and fingers, and feet".
Kenneth Copeland ministry letter, July 21, 1977

The Bible said in the fortieth chapter of Isaiah, along about the twelfth verse, that He measured out the heavens with a span... And I found out from the Hebrew Bible, that the Bible said he measured the heavens with a nine-inch span...Can you conceive that? Not hardly, in the mind but your heart can't, your heart can't. A being, a being that stands somewhere around six two, six three, that weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of a couple hundred pounds a little better, has a span of eight and, I mean a nine inches across. A being that would walk the shores of Galilee, a being that would shed tears and a being that was hungry, and a being that would laugh and play with the kids, stood up and said 'Let it be.' And this universe situated itself and went into motion.
Spirit, Soul, and Body, Kenneth Copeland, Tape 01-0601

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: This is classic MORMON doctrine. The Mormon church teaches that god was once a man but became glorified as a god. Their god also has a body and is considered to be the same size as an average man. Kenneth Copeland's reasoning is bizarre in itself. Since a span, in the Old Testament age was the distance from the thumb tip to the little finger tip with the hand spread apart, and this distance is about nine inches, therefore God measures the universe with His actual, physical hand, which means that he was about the same physical size as human beings. This is total nonsense beyond any rational comprehension.

The Bible teaches that God is not a man, but a spirit that fills the entire earth and the universe. Kenneth Copeland teaches a heretical and blasphemous doctrine, because he denies what God says about Himself and denies the Biblical record, and in the process he makes himself a double heretic on this one doctrinal point.

Doesn't it seem strange that Kenneth Copeland denies what the Bible says, and, instead, substitutes his own teachings in its place? How can people continue to support him, claiming that he is an anointed servant of God when he says that God lies in what is revealed in the Scripture? Discernment has been lost among his followers.

God is a spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.
The Holy Bible. John 4:24 (NAS)

"Can a man hide himself in hiding places so I do not see him?" declares the Lord. "Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?" declares the Lord.
The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 23:24 (NAS)

God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will Ne not make it good?
The Holy Bible, Numbers 23:19 (NAS)

"I will not execute My fierce anger; I will not destroy Ephraim again. For I am God and not man, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath."
The Holy Bible, Hosea 12:9 (NAS)

  2. God lives on a planet.

Heaven has a north and a south and an east and a west. Consequently, it must be a planet.
Spirit, Soul and Body I, Kenneth Copeland, 1985, audiotape 01-0601, side 1

You don't think earth was first, do you? Huh? Well, you don't think that God made man in His image, and then made earth in some other image? There is not anything under this whole sun that's new. Are you hearing what I'm saying? This is all a copy. It's a copy of home. It's a copy of the Mother Planet. Where God lives, He made a little one just like His and put us on it.
Following the Faith of Abraham I, Kenneth Copeland, 1989, audiotape #01-3001, side 1

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: This is classic MORMON doctrine. The Mormon church teaches that god the father (who was once a man but became glorified as a god) has his own planet, where, with his many wives, he fathered billions of spiritual children who then came (and will come) to this earth, which he organized, to inhabit the bodies of human babies. By following the beliefs of the Mormon church, all Mormon male adherents could potentially be glorified (just as their heavenly father) and become gods over their own planets. This doctrine is not supported in the Bible, and as such, it is heresy. Kenneth Copeland feels that he has authority greater than the Bible and greater than God, so he presents Mormon heresy as a revelation from the God of the Bible, making himself twice the heretic on just this one point of doctrine.

Kenneth Copeland provides no justification or support for his off-the-wall statement that God lives on a planet and that the earth is a copy of that heavenly planet. He simply makes the statement, expecting everyone listening to believe his words instead of looking to see what the Bible records. Most people accept what he says, because they are undiscerning in regards to spiritual matters.

The Scriptures above refute Kenneth Copeland's teaching, because God is a spirit, filling heaven and earth.
In Relation To God's Creation
  1. There are certain spiritual laws that cannot be changed by man or God.

Everything is governed by law. There is a law that governs sin and death and there is a law that governs the spirit of life in Christ Jesus, nothing happens by chance in this earth. Well if he broke his power over death then who's got the power of death? The Bible says the power or the authority of death is in the tongue. "What? The power of life and death is in the tongue. I just cannot accept that!" I know it. But we are the generation that's gonna have to start accepting that, coz some generation somewhere is gonna have to stand up before God and be responsible for preaching the message that puts the last enemy of God underfoot, which is death, Hallelujah! And you and I are that generation, so we might as well get at it.

Those things are governed by law and the thing that governs those laws are words, say it with me, we've been saying it in our daytime class 'faith filled words', say that, 'faith filled words dominate the laws of death', now say it again 'faith filled words dominate the laws of death'. Now why do faith filled words dominate the laws of death? Now analyze that just a moment. You remember what we read in Romans 8? 'For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death'. Faith filled words are the control factor of spiritual law. Hate filled words and fear filled words are the control factor of the law of sin and death. Fear activates the devil the way faith activates God"

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: According to Kenneth Copeland, there are "spiritual laws" that govern every activity. What he attempts to teach is that if a person knows how these laws operate, then that person can speak the proper words in relation to those laws (because "the thing that governs those laws are words") and bring about any purpose that can be visualized or conceived by that person. God must bring about the result, because He is bound by the laws! This is an extra-biblical teaching that Kenneth Copeland must claim as a revelation or word from God. It cannot be found in the Scriptures.

Kenneth Copeland is obsessed by the concept of power which he does not have. He claims that believers can "bind the devil" which only God can do. There is no teaching in the Bible which supports "binding the devil". If that could actually be done, then the devil would have been bound permanently by the early church, and believers today would not be going around doing the same thing. If the devil can be "bound" then why are men like Kenneth Copeland still going around "binding" the devil again and again? The concept that the believer can "bind the devil" goes along with Kenneth Copeland's teaching that God is obligated to honor the words spoken by the believer in relation to requests. In that case God is also "bound" by the immutable "spiritual laws" that are claimed to exist. Not only can the believer "bind" Satan, but God can be "bound" as well, making Him a spiritual genie that is obligated to perform on demand.

Kenneth Copeland teaches that the gifts of Faith, Righteousness, Wisdom, Love of God, and Eternal Life are all "forces" which can be manipulated, to the advantage of the believer, by knowing the right words to say. These forces are governed by spiritual laws that God must obey, and the spiritual laws are governed by the words that are spoken. However, no where in the Bible are these so-called "forces" described as such. Kenneth Copeland goes so far as to say that the "force" of Faith is so powerful and important, that God had to use Faith to create the universe, the earth and man. Thus, God did not actually create these things, but the "force" of Faith created them by means of the words that God spoke which carried the authority over the "force" of Faith. This is nonsense speaking, because God is the author of everything that is, including all forces and all gifts. Nothing exists, especially "forces", apart from the direct creation and continuous control of God. God is the force that holds the universe together. God does not exercise Faith, because faith must have an object which is greater than the one exercising it. There is none greater than God. God is the author of the gifts of Faith, Righteousness, Wisdom and Love of God. Jesus Christ is the giver and guarantor of Eternal Life. God is not obligated to any force, law or authority, because there is none greater than Himself.

God did not create the universe, the earth and man through faith. The Bible teaches specifically how He accomplished creation. God spoke, and by the action of the power behind the words that He spoke, that was inherent in Himself (not the power of the words themselves) everything that was not, came into being:

It is He who made the earth by His power, who established the world by His wisdom; and by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.
The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 10:12 (NAS)

And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all thins by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high...
The Holy Bible, Hebrews 1:3 (NAS)

Kenneth Copeland makes a statement about who has the power over death. The Bible teaches that, as a result of His work on the cross, Jesus Christ has the keys to death and hell (Revelation 1:18). But Kenneth Copeland teaches that the "tongue" has the power over death, presumably referring to:

Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and those who love it will eat its fruit.
    Proverbs 18:21 (NAS)

Kenneth Copeland's mishandling of the Scripture is evident, because the verse has no relationship to the control of the origin and end of death as a fact in existence. In the verse, the tongue, when used by those in authority, can bring about death or preserve life depending on what is decreed by the ruler. This, in no way refers to the control or power over death and life as applied to all of humanity. Kenneth Copeland twists verses to fit his own pre-determined agenda, doing it with impunity, because he does not actually believe in the God who is the author of Scripture.

To those who accept Kenneth Copeland's teaching - think again! Kenneth Copeland does not teach the concept of a sovereign God of the universe, but a God who exists for the benefit of Kenneth Copeland's imaginations and performs to accomplish the desires of his visualizations. God has a different view, and if Kenneth Copeland does not wish to be judged by God for his teachings, then he needs to conform to the teaching of God.

  2. God created Adam and Eve, not as likenesses of Himself, but as Gods exactly like Himself.

God spoke Adam into existence in authority with words (Gen. 1:26, 28). These words struck Adam's body in the face. His body and God were exactly the same size.
Holy Bible, Kenneth Copeland Reference Edition, 1991, p. 45

God's reason for creating Adam was His desire to reproduce Himself... He was not a little like God. He was not almost like God. He was not subordinate to God even. Adam is as much like God as you could get, just the same as Jesus. ...Adam, in the Garden of Eden, was God manifested in the flesh.
Following the Faith of Abraham I, Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Copeland Ministries, Fort Worth, Texas, 1989, tape 01-3001, side 1.

    ON DOCTRINE COMMENT:
Compare the above statement with that of Mormon prophet Brigham Young,
"The Lord created you and me for the purpose of becoming gods like himself. . . . We are created . . . to become God's like unto our Father in heaven,"
    Journal of Discourses, vol. 3, p. 93.

". . . man is the king of kings and lord of lords in embryo,"
    Journal of Discourses, vol. 10, p. 223).
Kenneth Copeland's claims are veiled allusions to Mormon doctrine which teaches that the spirits of human beings, fathered by god and his many wives on another planet, are the same size as the human bodies which they will eventually inhabit. In addition, Mormon doctrine claims that god is the same size as a human being and all Mormons have the potential to become gods themselves. This is both a heretical claim and a blasphemous assertion, both in Mormon doctrine and Kenneth Copeland's statements, because it makes a human being into a god, the same as the Creator/God. This belief is not taught in any place in the Bible. Kenneth Copeland must claim a new revelation in order to teach this doctrine. The Bible teaches a completely different belief in regards to the origin and status of Adam and Eve.

The idea that Adam was not subordinate to God is ludicrous in light of the restrictions placed on Adam and the commands that were spoken to him by God. A command or restriction can only be given to a subordinate, not an equal.

God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that creeps on the earth."
The Holy Bible, Genesis 1:28 (NAS)

Adam was a ruler only in relation to the earth and not the universe as a god. He had authority only as it was granted to him by God. Adam had no say or choice in his creation by God, and he had no say or choice as to where God placed him.

Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.
The Holy Bible, Genesis 2:15 (NAS)

Adam and Eve were subordinate to God, not only because they were a creation by God, but by the fact that they were required to be obedient to God, to answer to God, who is their superior, and by the fact that they would suffer a penalty for disobedience:

The Lord God commanded the man, saying, "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die."
The Holy Bible, Genesis 2:16-17 (NAS)

And He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat.?"
The Holy Bible, Genesis 3:11 (NAS)

Adam and Eve were not created as gods, because they did not consider themselves to be gods. When the serpent said to Eve that she would be like God, if she ate the fruit, she desired to have that status, indicating that she did not believe that she was a god prior to eating the fruit.

"For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like god, knowing good and evil."
The Holy Bible, Genesis 3:5 (NAS)

  3. Adam and Eve were not caretakers of the earth, but were gods over the earth. They were members of the "god-class" just like Jesus Christ, just like God.

(Adam) He was not subordinate to God ... was walking as a god with the authority of a god. ... What he said went. What he did, counted. ...bowed his knee to Satan and put Satan up above him, then there wasn't anything God could do about it, because a god had placed (Satan) there"
The Force of Love, tape 02-0028

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: As has just been shown previously, Adam and Eve were not created as gods, they were not gods and they did not consider themselves to be gods. Adam may have allowed Satan to reign over him as a result of his sin, but it was not possible that Adam exchanged his "godship" over the earth for the "godship" of Satan over the earth, because Adam was not a god. Satan aspired to be a god, but the real God prevented that possibility.

There is no such thing as a "god-class". To have a class, means that there would be more than one God. The belief in more than one God is polytheism (which is Mormon doctrine - a favorite religion from which Kenneth Copeland borrows heavily). To make the claim that there was (or is) more than one God, is to speak heresy in relation to the teaching of the Scriptures, and to speak blasphemy against God, calling Him a liar when He claims to be the singular, unique and only God that exists.

"You are my witnesses,: declares the Lord, "And My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after me."
The Holy Bible, Isaiah 43:10 (NAS)

Jesus answered. "The foremost is, 'Hear, O Israel! The Lord Our God is one Lord...'"
The Holy Bible, Mark 12:29 (NAS)

O Lord of hosts, the god of Israel, who is enthroned above the cherubim, You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.
The Holy Bible, Isaiah 37:16 (NAS)

  4. When Adam and Eve sinned, they forfeited their position in the "god-class" and title to the earth to the possession of Satan. (So Satan himself must be a member of the "god-class".)

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: It has been previously noted and shown that Adam and Eve were not created as gods, they did not become gods and they did not consider themselves to be gods.

  5. God maintained control over the earth while He had communion and a relationship with Adam and Eve but lost control when that relationship was broken.

God had no avenue of lasting faith or moving in the earth. He had to have covenant with somebody....He had to be invited in, in other words, or He couldn't come. God is on the outside looking in. In order to have any say so in the earth, He's gonna have to be in agreement with a man here.
God's Covenants With Man II, Kenneth Copeland, 1985, audiotape 01- 4404, side

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: Kenneth Copeland completely ignores what the Bible teaches and proclaims his own words as the truth. What is taught in the Bible is just the opposite of what is taught by Kenneth Copeland. It was not God that lost control, but it was Adam who lost control when he sinned. It was Adam who was outside looking in, not only looking from the outside at the relationship with God that he lost, but also standing outside the garden, attempting to look in at what he could not recover:

...therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken. So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life.
The Holy Bible, Genesis 3:23-24 (NAS)

The absurdity of Kenneth Copeland's position regarding the loss of control over the earth is no where shown to be more apparent than in the penalty suffered by the serpent, the change in the nature of the earth and Adam's relationship to it.

    • God had control and authority over the serpent and assessed a penalty for his conduct.
The Lord said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed are you more than all cattle..."
      The Holy Bible, Genesis 3:14-15

    • God had control and authority over the earth, changing the nature of how it would relate to man.
"Cursed is the ground because of you..."
The Holy Bible, Genesis 3:17 (NAS)

    • God had control and authority over Adam and Eve, removing them from the garden and placing them in the earth which would oppose them at every turn.
So He drove the man out...
The Holy Bible, Genesis 3:24a (NAS)

    • God had control and authority over the earth by placing the cherubim and flaming sword at the entrance to the garden so that Adam and Eve could not return and none of their descendants could enter.
...and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life.
The Holy Bible, Genesis 3:24b (NAS)

    • God had control and authority over the earth because the Bible states that to be the case.
Whatever the Lord pleases, He does, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps.
The Holy Bible, Psalm 135:6 (NAS)

  6. God lost control of the earth and could not claim it back because it was owned by Satan.

He [God] treated Satan like he was the ruler of the earth. He treated him like he planned on treating Adam and that's the reason Satan could walk before Him, in the days of Job, to and fro on the earth. And God said, "Where you been?" He said, "I've been walking to and fro on the earth." He had a right to. God treated him the way He planned on treating Adam. He had to - He had given Adam His word. If He had made another one out of the dust there, it would've looked just like that one did after it sinned. So I mean, what good's - I mean, He's just reproducing the same thing. Besides that, the dirt's not His, any longer. So God, really, is on the outside looking in.
    Kenneth Copeland

Suddenly, God was on the outside looking in... After Adam's fall, God found Himself in a peculiar position... God needed an avenue back into the earth...
Our Covenant with God, Kenneth Copeland, KCP Publications, Fort Worth, Texas, 1987

God's on the outside looking in. He doesn't have any legal entree into the earth. The thing don't belong to Him. You see how sassy the Devil was in the presence of God in the book of Job? God said, 'Where have you been?' Wasn't any of God's business. He [Satan] didn't even have to answer if he didn't want to God didn't argue with him a bit! You see, this is the position that God's been in, might say, 'Well, if God's running things He's doing a lousy job of it.' He hadn't been running 'em, except when He's just got, you know, a little bit of a chance.
Image of God in You III, Kenneth Copeland, audiotape 01-1403, side 1

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: This teaching is ludicrous beyond belief. Satan is not a god and God has no obligation to him or to any other entity. God has always had control of the universe, the earth and man. God is the Creator and Owner of everything that is, including Satan. Satan was created by God, comes under the authority of God and is maintained in his existence by the power of God and the good pleasure of God. Kenneth Copeland's claim that God did not have any control over Satan and that Satan did not have to answer to God is no where taught in the Bible. Kenneth Copeland can only claim a revelation as the foundation for that teaching, but it is still a false teaching.

The incident regarding Satan in the book of Job is actually two separate occasions, both of which were command performances, directed to Satan and demanded by God: Job 1:6 and Job 2:1. The occasions were great convocations of the angelic hosts which were mandated by God to occur at a specific time. Every angelic being had to appear and present themselves in the presence of God. Satan was also commanded to appear, and on both occasions he made the journey from earth to heaven in order to make his appearance, without objection. On both occasions God asked the same question of Satan and Satan gave the same answer. God asked and Satan responded. No where did Satan claim a right not to answer, nor did he refuse to answer.

In both instances, the encounter resulted in the testing of Job, with God originating the subject. God revealed His power and authority over Satan by restricting the actions of Satan over the person of Job. In the first instance, everything that Job owned could be taken by Satan, but he could not touch Job in any way. Satan conformed to those conditions. In the second instance, Satan could do anything he wished to Job except take his life. Satan conformed to those conditions.

Moses, David and Daniel declare the ownership of the earth by God. God, when speaking to Job, dispels Kenneth Copeland's claim that God lost ownership and authority over the earth. Is there any greater authority needed to speak against Kenneth Copeland's false teaching, than God Himself?

Who then is able to stand against Me? Who has a claim against Me that I must pay? Everything under heaven belongs to Me.
The Holy Bible, Job 41:10b-11 (NIV)

Now if you obey Me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine...
The Holy Bible, Exodus 19:5 (NIV)

The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.
The Holy Bible, Psalm 24:1 (NIV)

All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as He pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back His hand or say to Him: "What have you done?"
The Holy Bible, Daniel 4:35 (NIV)

  7. God had to develop a plan to reclaim the earth and He had to do it by covert means so that Satan would not discover His plan. God's plan was to find men who would follow Him, so that He could speak words to them that they would record. These words were promises that could be recalled later and claimed by men. These are words used in the "positive confession" that bind God to honoring those words.

Here's where we're gonna depart from ordinary church. Now, you see, God is injecting His Word into the earth to produce this Jesus; these faith-filled words that framed the image that's in Him... He can't just walk onto the earth and say, "Let it be!" because He doesn't have the right. He had to sneak it in here around the god of this world that was blockin' every way that he possibly could."
The Image of God in You III, Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Copeland Ministries, Fort Worth, Texas, 1989, audiotape 01-1403, side 2

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: Kenneth Copeland, in his above statements, has fabricated a scenario which has no basis in fact and is not taught in the Bible. Still clinging to the erroneous teaching that words have power within themselves, he claims that God did not have any power outside the use of words and a covenant with a human being. He teaches that it was words that eventually produced Jesus Christ. He also teaches that God sank to such a low level, that He used subterfuge (or lies) in order to obtain the result that He wished. Kenneth Copeland makes God into a deceiver and a liar, more suitable to his own teachings than the real character of God.

"Behold, I am against the prophets," declares the Lord, "who use their tongues and declare, 'The Lord declares.'

Behold, I am against those who have prophesied false dreams," declares the Lord, "and related them and led My people astray by their falsehoods and reckless boasting; yet I did not send them or command them, nor do they furnish this people the slightest benefit," declares the Lord."

"For you will no longer remember the oracle of the Lord, because every man's own word will become the oracle, and you have perverted the words of the living God, and the Lord of hosts, our God."

The Holy Bible, Jeremiah 23:31-32, 36 (NAS)

Also the glory of Israel will not lie or change His mind; for He is not a man that He should change His mind.
The Holy Bible, 1 Samuel 15:29 (NAS)

...so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.
The Holy Bible, Hebrews 6:18 (NAS)

  8. The words themselves have power and do not require the power of God to cause them to be effective, because the believer who is speaking them is of the "god-class".

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: As has been shown, THERE IS NO GOD-CLASS ---- THERE IS ONLY GOD!
In Relation To Jesus Christ
  1. Jesus Christ did not claim to be God.

Don't be disturbed when people accuse you of thinking you are God ... They crucified Me for claiming I was God. I didn't claim that I was God; I just claimed that I walked with Him and that He was in Me. Hallelujah! That's what you're doing ..."
"Take Time to Pray," Believer's Voice of Victory, February 1987, p. 9

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: In this above alleged direct conversation with Jesus Christ, Kenneth Copeland reveals that he is the actual author and shows his lack of Biblical scholarship and understanding by what he claims that Jesus Christ said. It is difficult to understand why he would not admit to the deity of Jesus Christ when he claims that Adam and Eve were gods and that he is a god himself. It might be true that Jesus never said the exact words, "I am God", but that does not void the fact that Jesus Christ taught and claimed that He was equal to, and was God.

Perhaps this teaching of Kenneth Copeland goes along with his companion teaching that any believer could have accomplished the same thing that Jesus Christ did.

The Spirit of God spoke to me and He said, 'Son, realize this. Now follow me in this and don't let your tradition trip you up.' He said, 'Think this way - a twice-born man whipped Satan in his own domain.' And I threw my Bible down like that. I said, 'What?' He said, 'A born-again man defeated Satan, the firstborn of many brethren defeated him.' He said, 'You are the very image, the very copy of that one.' I said, 'Goodness, gracious sakes alive!' And I began to see what had gone on in there, and I said, 'Well now you don't mean, you couldn't dare mean, that I could have done the same thing?' He said, 'Oh yeah, if you'd had the knowledge of the Word of God that He did, you could have done the same thing, 'cause you're a reborn man too.'"
Substitution and Identification, tape 00-0202, side 2

With the above statement, Kenneth Copeland allows his true colors to shine like a red flag. Any born-again believer could have taken the place of Jesus Christ, is what he teaches. Being "born-again" is not unique to the new Testament, so he must be teaching that any Old Testament believer, given the correct instructions on how to use the words of the Scripture could have taken the place of Jesus Christ and accomplished the same thing. So God did a very foolish thing by having His Son die on the Cross, when a little instruction given to a born-again believer could have accomplished the same task and God could have spared His Son the death penalty.

The reality is, that it was necessary that Jesus Christ be the Redeemer, because He was the only One who was both God and Man, by means of the incarnation. Jesus Christ was the only sinless person who ever lived and will ever live. Because Jesus Christ, as a sinless person, had no need to be born again, no born-again person can make the claim to be sinless. Kenneth Copeland would claim that any born again believer is also a god, therefore they could also substitute as a redeemer. However, Kenneth Copeland's teaching is deeply flawed, because the born again believer was at one time a sinner, and, as has been previously shown, believers do not become gods. Adam and Eve were never created gods and did not become gods, therefore, believers cannot attain back to the godhood of Adam and Eve which was a position that they never occupied.

Regardless of what Kenneth Copeland says or claims, Jesus Christ is His own authority regarding Himself, and does state that He is God:

"I and the Father are one."
The Holy Bible, John 10:30 (NAS, NIV)

  2. Jesus died spiritually.

Jesus had to go through that same spiritual death in order to pay the price. Now it wasn't the physical death on the cross that paid the price for sin, because if it had of been any prophet of God that had died for the last couple of thousand years before that could have paid that price. It wasn't physical death anybody could do that.
What Satan Saw on the Day of Pentecost, Kenneth Copeland, audio tape 020022

"Copeland teaches, as do all the Word-Faith teachers, that 'Jesus Died Spiritually' (JDS). What makes the Word-Faith teachers' version of JDS, heresy (if not blasphemy), is their teaching that our redemption comes not from Christ's death upon the cross, but from His being tortured by Satan in hell for three days and nights! Copeland has, thus, embraced a heresy known as the 'Ransom theory of the atonement.' It is the view that Christ's death was a ransom paid to Satan to settle the legal claim the devil had on the human race because of Adam's sin. But that view contradicts the clear Biblical teaching that Christ's death was a sacrifice offered to God, not to Satan (Eph. 5:2)."
Charismatic Chaos, Dr. John MacArthur, p. 278

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: The "Ransom Theory" in relation to Satan, presumes that Satan must be appeased or "paid-off" before an individual can be considered the property of God. It is believed by Kenneth Copeland that God had no claim on humanity until Satan received his payment. This theory fits well with Kenneth Copeland's teaching that Satan inherited the earth and the people in it as a result of Adam and Eve forfeiting their "god position" to him when they sinned. However, as has been previously shown, Adam and Eve were not created as gods, did not become gods, did not consider themselves to be gods and were not gods over the earth. God made it very clear that Adam and Eve were of the "human class" and not of the "god class". As such, they were placed in the garden of Eden as caretakers and representatives of God, not as gods themselves. As a result, when they sinned, they had nothing to forfeit to Satan in the manner of a kingdom or position as gods. God has no obligation to Satan and Satan can make no claim on God that cannot be rejected by God. The ransom paid by Jesus Christ by His death on the cross, was the debt owed to God for the sin of humanity. The Bible is clear that sin is an offense against God only, regardless of what form it takes, therefore God demands that the penalty be paid to Him only.

The entire structure of the Old Testament sacrificial system was a picture of the debt that was owed by humanity. The sacrifices on the altar were sacrifices offered to God and not to Satan. Those who did not take advantage of the sacrifices offered then became the property of Satan at their death, just as those who do not take advantage of the salvation offered through the death of Jesus Christ also become the property of Satan at their death.

THE FIRST SACRIFICE - AN OFFERING TO GOD
1.Abel - an offering from his flocks accepted by God. (Genesis 4:2-7)
2.Cain - an offering from the fruits of the soil was rejected by God. (Genesis 4:2-7)

THE DEATH OF ISAAC BY ABRAHAM DEMANDED - AN OFFERING TO GOD
    (Genesis 22:1-18)

Abraham said, "God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son." So the two of them walked on together. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am." He said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me."
The Holy Bible, Genesis 22:8, 11-12 (NAS)

THE INSTITUTION OF THE PASSOVER - AN OFFERING TO GOD
The Passover lamb was killed (Exodus 12:1-30)

"And when your children ask you, 'What does this ceremony mean to you?' then tell them, 'It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.'" Then the people bowed down and worshipped.
The Holy Bible, Exodus 12:26-27 (NAS)

THE OLD TESTAMENT SACRIFICES - AN OFFERING TO GOD

The Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting. He said, "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When any of you brings an offering to the Lord, bring as your offering an animal from either the herd or the flock.'"
The Holy Bible, Leviticus 1:1 (NAS)

THE SACRIFICE OF JESUS CHRIST - AN OFFERING TO GOD

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
    The Holy Bible, Ephesians 5:1-2

"Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?"
The Holy Bible, Luke 24:26 (NAS)

Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fat unleavened. for Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.

The Holy Bible, 1 Corinthians 5:7 (NAS)

Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; but He having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God...
    The Holy Bible, Hebrews 10:11-12

Since sacrifices for sin are offered to God, beginning in the Old Testament, and Christ gave Himself as a sin offering, then the sacrifice of His life was an offering to God only. No sacrifices were ever made to Satan.
Kenneth Copeland's teaching about Jesus Christ being the ransom given to Satan shows that he has no understanding of the Old Testament sacrifices or the reasons for their existence. They were all shadows and pictures of the ultimate sacrifice by the coming Messiah, Jesus Christ, through His death on the cross as a ransom payment to God, covering the sins of the world. Without their fulfillment in Jesus Christ, the Old Testament sacrifices had no meaning.

Why would Kenneth Copeland ignore the Old Testament teaching and misapply the New Testament doctrines regarding the meaning of the death of Jesus Christ? He cannot claim ignorance, because he claims to be a student of the Bible and that God and Jesus Christ speak revelations to him on a continual basis. He cannot claim that he has never heard the true doctrines, because the church has taught them since the death of Jesus Christ. The reason he ignores the meanings of the Old Testament sacrifices is so that he can teach about a different Jesus Christ than is presented in the Bible. He wishes to teach a Jesus Christ of his own creation; one who more closely conforms to the nature and character of Kenneth Copeland.

In Relation To The Believer
  1. According to Kenneth Copeland, at the point of belief, the believer attains back to the "god-class" just like Adam and Eve, who were gods.

You don't have a god in you, you are one.
The Force of Love audiotape, Kenneth Copeland, 1987

Now Peter said by exceeding great and precious promises you become partakers of the divine class. All right, are we gods? We are a class of gods!"
Kenneth Copeland, Praise The Lord TV Show, Feb. 5, 1986

"You're all God. You don't have a God living in you; you are one! ... When I read in the Bible where God tells Moses, 'I AM,' I say, 'Yah, I am too!'"
The Force of Love, Kenneth Copeland, tape BBC-56

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: In the above statements, Kenneth Copeland is teaching the same false doctrine with which Satan tempted Eve in the garden of Eden. Satan was successful at that time in causing Eve to believe his lie, and Kenneth Copeland has deceived many who call themselves Christians into believing the same lie.

The serpent said to the woman, "You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like god, knowing good and evil."
The Holy Bible, Genesis 3:4-5 (NAS)

Along with his teaching about the believer attaining to godhood, Kenneth Copeland teaches that he is a god:

You're all God. You don't have a God living in you; you are one! ... When I read in the Bible where God tells Moses, 'I AM,' I say, Yeah, I am too! The Force of Love, Kenneth Copeland, tape BBC-56

There is no statement that can be made that is more blasphemous than to claim that one is equal to God. But Kenneth Copeland speaks the words with impunity, speaks the words with arrogance coated in vanity, and speaks the words in direct opposition to the words of the real God as recorded in the Bible.

"To whom then will you liken Me that I would be his equal?" says the Holy One. Why do you say, O Jacob, and assert, O Israel, 'My way is hidden from the Lord, and the justice due me escapes the notice of my god'? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable."
The Holy Bible, Isaiah 40:25, 27-28

"To whom would you liken Me and make me equal and compare Me, that we would be alike? Remember this, and be assured; recall it to mind, you transgressors. Remember the former things long past, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me..."
The Holy Bible Isaiah 46:5, 8-9

  2. Kenneth Copeland teaches that God provides powers that are placed inside the re-born human spirit. The powers, or forces, are as follows:
    • Faith
    • Righteousness
    • Wisdom
    • Love of God
    • Eternal Life

Now, we're going to be talking about the major forces that are alive inside the re-born human spirit. We're going to find out what these forces are, and then find out how to release each one of them.
The Forces of the Recreated Human Spirit, Kenneth Copeland

And, what I'd like to really get into is some of these areas about how this force of eternal life, that includes these forces that I've named off here to you - the major forces, how this can be used in our daily lives.
The Forces of the Recreated Human Spirit, Kenneth Copeland

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: It must be understood that Kenneth Copeland teaches that these so-called "forces" are to be used in "daily life" as a means of attaining to physical goals and desires, i.e., health and prosperity. He does not apply these gifts according to the Biblical use in attaining to knowledge of God and conformity to the character and person of Jesus Christ. For Kenneth Copeland, these "powers" are energy that is to be manipulated, through learning how to use them, so that the believer can achieve whatever is desired in this life.

The brain is the physical housing of the mind. Can you see that? The brain is the physical housing, that's where the mind lives. That's the physical organ that the mind operates in, that's where the mind and the body come together. All right?
The Forces of the Recreated Human Spirit, Kenneth Copeland

...and then He said this to me, why, I nearly came plumb off the floor when I realized the possibilities that have been opened to us in the spirit world by Jesus Christ and by sending His Holy Spirit, you see, to bring us over into getting to operate like He operates.
The Forces of the Recreated Human Spirit, Kenneth Copeland

You have the same creative faith and ability on the inside of you that God used when he created the heavens and the earth.
Inner Image of the Covenant, Kenneth Copeland, side 2.

Kenneth Copeland always returns to the same theme: Faith is a power that can be manipulated by the believer through the use of words. This "faith-power" is the same as that used by God, therefore he teaches that the believer can do the same things that God can do by "getting to operate like He operates". Again, Kenneth Copeland is teaching that men are gods, just like the Creator/God of the Bible.

The God of the Bible will not allow this equality to occur. God did not create Adam and Eve as gods, as has been previously shown, and therefore Kenneth Copeland's claim that believers return to the "god-class" is a false reality. There never was a "god-class" to which a believer could return.

Believers become sons of God, but through adoption and not by nature. Believers do not become gods.

"I am the Lord, and there is no other; besides Me there is no god."
The Holy Bible, Isaiah 45:5 (NAS)

Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: "I am the first and I am the last, and there is no God besides me. Who is like Me? let him proclaim and declare it; yes, let him recount it to Me in order, from the time that I established the ancient nation. And let them declare to them the things that are coming and the events that are going to take place. Do not tremble and do not be afraid; have I not long since announced it to you and declared it? And you are My witnesses. Is there any God besides me, or is there any other Rock? I know of none."
The Holy Bible, Isaiah 44:6-8 (NAS)

If God does not know of any other gods - THEN THERE NO OTHER GODS AND NEVER WILL BE, BECAUSE HE KNOWS THE PAST AND THE FUTURE!
In Relation To The Bible
According to Kenneth Copeland, the power of the Bible is in the actual words that are written, because they conform to the "spiritual law" that is set down by God, governing the result of their being spoken and written.

God's word (Bible) is a living thing. It has the inherent power to cause itself to come to pass... God's word has within itself the power to bring itself to pass...
Voice Of Victory, March 1987

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: According to Kenneth Copeland, the Bible has its inherent power because of the words that God spoke to men that were recorded. The immutable laws, or spiritual laws, were applied when the words were spoken so that the words of the Bible take on a life of fulfillment on their own. Those same laws are said to operate in the life of the believer when they speak words accompanied by faith. Therefore, the words that the believer speaks carry the same force as the words of the Bible, and are in effect, self-fulfilling. Believers have the power to make their visualized world a reality, through the words that they speak in faith.

The problem with the teaching is that it based on a false foundation. Words do not contain power within themselves and the immutable spiritual laws, that are applied to the performance of God in relation to the words that the believer speaks, do not exist. They are a fabrication of the mind of Kenneth Copeland.

The words of the Bible are not self-fulfilling because they have no power of themselves, but are only descriptions of the actions of God, that have, and will be, accomplished by the power inherent in Himself.

The words of the Bible are powerful in their influence over man, because they are the words of God, applied to the heart of man by the work of the Holy Spirit. The words carry the message, but the Holy Spirit brings the power of conviction.

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of god for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
The Holy Bible, Romans 1:16 (NIV)

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
The Holy Bible, Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

"And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged."
The Holy Bible, John 16:8-11 (NAS)

In Relation To Revelation
Belief in continuing, direct revelation from God.

ON DOCTRINE COMMENT: Kenneth Copeland teaches that he receives direct revelation from God and engages in conversations which are directly related to the sermons that he gives. He relates numerous times about how God speaks or reveals messages to him:

"...the picture, the Lord's pictures that are in my mind about it..."

"And I laid hands on her and the Lord spoke to me, just as I laid my hands on her, and I never would have thought of this, I wouldn't have thought of it in a hundred years. It's just something, you know, some of those things of God, they just never enter our thinking unless He puts them there, because we think so low. We think so carnally think on such a low level, you see, compared to the way God thinks, and actually the way He intended MAN to think."

"The Spirit of God spoke to me and he said, 'Son, realize this...'"

"And he'd say to me "don't lay your hands on somebody till you're ready to release your faith."

"He said, 'I want you to go on a fast next January'. And He said, 'When you pray, and when you think, and when you start to pray about it, don`t even pray about it, just talk in tongues about it a little bit'. He said, 'Don`t tell anybody about it, don`t tell Gloria or nobody what you`re going to do.'"

The list of instances where God speaks to Kenneth Copeland is endless. If there is no verse in the Bible that can be twisted to say what he claims, then God speaks to him, revealing the latest permutation in doctrine. Kenneth Copeland presents no evidence that God spoke to him. He simply makes the claim and the undiscerning Christian world accepts his word, EVEN WHEN IT CONTRADICTS THE TEACHING OF THE BIBLE!

CONCLUSION

It should be apparent that Kenneth Copeland teaches a different gospel than what is revealed in the Bible. If one does not choose to consider him to be a heretic or a blasphemer, then so be it. However, Kenneth Copeland is opposed to the gospel of Jesus Christ as presented in the Bible, and as such, he teaches a different Jesus Christ, a different God and a different Holy Spirit from those taught in the Bible.

Kenneth Copeland's teaching is obvious when it is put to the test, but it is also subtle, in that it hides behind the words and structure of Christianity, as he is presented as a minister of the true gospel by churches, organizations and TV networks, where the leadership should know better. As a result, Kenneth Copeland deceives many who put their trust, not in the study of the Bible, but in the word of "Christian" leaders who have a different agenda for promoting Kenneth Copeland that has nothing to do with the truth or falsity of the doctrine that he teaches.

Kenneth Copeland's doctrine, when presented to the uninitiated, becomes a temptation just like that in the Garden of Eden. It is presented as light, but the result is darkness and despair. It presents itself in the following form, just as temptation was presented by the Serpent to Eve in the Garden of Eden:
  1. Temptation to Listen to Someone Other Than God.
The serpent "...said to the woman".
Kenneth Copeland says, "God told me...", "Jesus told me...", "The Spirit of God spoke to me...".

  2. Temptation to Doubt the Words of the Bible.
The serpent said, 'Indeed, has God said ..?'
Kenneth Copeland says, "And while I was laying there thinking about these things, the Spirit of God spoke to me. And He said, 'Son, realize this: Now follow Me in this, don't let your tradition trip you up.' He said, 'Think this way...'"

  3. Temptation to Doubt The Motives of God.
The serpent said that Eve would be just like God, but he implied that God did not want her to know that, so God was a liar.
Kenneth Copeland says, "He (God) had to sneak it in here around the god (Satan) of this world that was blockin' every way that he possibly could."

  4. Temptation to Doubt The Truthfulness of the Bible.
The serpent said, "You surely will not die!".
Kenneth Copeland says, "I don't preach doctrine, I preach faith."

  5. Temptation to Distort The Words Of God.
The serpent implied, "You cannot believe what God says."
Kenneth Copeland says, "God is the biggest failure in the Bible. The reason you've never thought that is because He never said He was one".

  6. Temptation to Desire For Something other.
The serpent said, "...in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God..."
Kenneth Copeland says, God is "very much like you and me....A being that stands somewhere around 6'2," 6'3, that weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of a couple of hundred pounds, little better, has a (hand) span nine inches across."

  7. Temptation to Desire Of The Body.
The serpent said, '...you will be like God...'
Kenneth Copeland says, "You don't have a god in you, you are one".

  8. Temptation to Desire Of Sight.
Eve saw that the fruit was "...desirable for gaining wisdom..."
Kenneth Copeland says, "You'll be expecting the very presence of God to rise up in you so powerfully that instead of believing for healing every six weeks, you'll walk in divine health every day!"

  9. Temptation to Desire Of Pride.
The serpent said, "...you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
Kenneth Copeland says, "When I read in the Bible where He says, 'I Am,' I just smile and say, 'Yes, I Am, too!'"
Kenneth Copeland uses portions of the Bible to support his teachings, but his beliefs are completely different from what is actually revealed in the Scriptures:
  1. Kenneth Copeland teaches a god that is different from the God in the Bible.
    • The God of the Bible is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, eternal and immutable.
    • The god of Kenneth Copeland is "...the biggest failure in the Bible."

    • The God of the Bible creates by His power.
    • The god of Kenneth Copeland creates by the use of Faith.

    • The God of the Bible is a Spirit who cannot be seen.
    • The god of Kenneth Copeland is about the same size as an average man and looks like Adam and Jesus Christ, which is classic Mormon doctrine.

    • The God of the Bible fills the earth and the universe.
    • The god of Kenneth Copeland lives on a planet, which is classic Mormon doctrine.

    • The God of the Bible created Adam and Eve as human beings, not gods.
    • The god of Kenneth Copeland created Adam and Eve as gods just like himself

    • The God of the Bible is omnipotent, possessing all power.
    • The god of Kenneth Copeland is limited by "spiritual laws".

    • The God of the Bible created, owns and upholds the earth.
    • The god of Kenneth Copeland lost possession of the earth to Satan because of the sin of Adam and Eve.

    • The God of the Bible is Truth and cannot lie or be deceitful.
    • The god of Kenneth Copeland must deceive Satan in order to get his words recorded in the earth.

  2. Kenneth Copeland teaches a Jesus Christ that is different from the Jesus Christ of the Bible.
    • The Jesus Christ of the Bible died on the cross for the sins of the world.
    • The Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland was tortured in hell by Satan for three days for the sins of the world.

    • The Jesus Christ of the Bible died physically of the cross, but His Spirit was continually alive.
    • The Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland "died spiritually".

    • The Jesus Christ of the Bible was raised from the dead, the same person and spirit as He was previous to death.
    • The Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland died spiritually, so he had to be re-created by God, therefore he is not the same person or spirit as he was previous to death.

    • The Jesus Christ of the Bible was the only person who was worthy to die on the cross for the sins of the world.
    • The Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland could have been replaced by any "born-again" believer, who could have accomplished the same thing.

    • The Jesus Christ of the Bible left no record of His appearance.
    • The Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland looked and talked just like Adam.

    • The Jesus Christ of the Bible was sinless, righteous, without flaw or blemish.
    • The Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland accepted a sin nature and gave up his righteousness while on the cross.

    • The Jesus Christ of the Bible conquered death and hell.
    • The Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland was conquered on the cross by Satan and was taken by Satan to hell.

    • The Jesus Christ of the Bible was the Son of God, in whom He was well pleased.
    • The Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland was forsaken "Because God was not His Father any more" while he was on the cross.

    • The Jesus Christ of the Bible said, "I and the Father are one."
    • The Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland says, in a direct conversation with Kenneth Copeland, that he never claimed to be God while on the earth but only that he claimed to walk with God.

    • The Jesus Christ of the Bible died on the cross as a ransom paid to God.
    • The Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland died on the cross as a ransom paid to Satan.

    • The Jesus Christ of the Bible claimed to be poor and without a place to rest.
    • The Jesus Christ of Kenneth Copeland is claimed to have been rich because, "It would have been impossible for Jesus Christ to have been poor".

  3. Kenneth Copeland teaches doctrines that are different from the Bible
    • The Bible teaches in Ephesians 4:11-16 that the unity of the body of Christ is based on teaching to equip the saints for service.
    • Kenneth Copeland teaches that the unity of the body of Christ will not be based on doctrine.

    • The Bible teaches that walking in the Spirit is walking with the Holy Spirit.
    • Kenneth Copeland teaches that walking in the spirit is walking in your own spirit.

    • The Bible teaches that believers are children of God by adoption.
    • Kenneth Copeland teaches that believers are gods.

    • The Bible teaches that believers are subject to the will of God.
    • Kenneth Copeland teaches that God is subject to the spoken wills and desires of believers.

Kenneth Copeland's teachings classify him as heretical in relation to the Bible.

The real question that must be answered by his adherents and by potential adherents is, which one is trustworthy, the Bible or Kenneth Copeland? Virtually every time he speaks, Kenneth Copeland claims to have received a direct message from God, Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit. Why are those messages so radically different or opposite to the revelations of God and Jesus Christ recorded in the Bible?

Kenneth Copeland is a wise-cracking, smart-aleck talking individual who presumes to speak for God and actually tell God what to do in his life. His god actually speaks with the same perverted English phraseology that he uses himself. Does it not matter that the perverted use of the English language by Kenneth Copeland is an offense to his listeners and to ascribe its use by God through His revelations is an affront and insult to Him?

With all the power that Kenneth Copeland claims to have, why doesn't he create his own money instead of begging from other people? Why doesn't he create food for all of the starving people of the world? Why doesn't he go into the hospitals of the world and heal those who are sick? Why doesn't he replace missing arms, legs and restore faces mutilated by fire and accidents? Why doesn't he move mountains and perform other miracles that he claims believers can do if they just follow his teachings? If these powers are available and the Bible teaches about them, why haven't other Christians since the time of Christ been able to do the things that he claims are within the domain of the believer? Kenneth Copeland has been teaching for over 30 years - how long does it take to acquire and learn the use of these powers? If the teacher cannot accomplish what he teaches, how are his students expected to be successful? If Kenneth Copeland's claim of power is real, why hasn't the world been beating a path to his door in order to find out how to obtain the power for its benefit?

In Acts 8:9-24, Simon the sorcerer recognized the reality of the genuine power that was possessed by the apostles and wished to purchase the ability to use that power from them. The apostles had power that could be seen, could be demonstrated and was of such quality and potency that Simon wanted to possess it. Such is not the case with Kenneth Copeland.

In the case of Kenneth Copeland,
  • He claims to possess monumental spiritual power that cannot be demonstrated.
  • He cannot raise the dead.
  • He cannot heal the sick and dying.
  • He cannot restore missing and damaged body parts.
  • He cannot prophesy.
  • He cannot create by his spoken word.

  • He must use money given to him by others, instead of creating it for himself by using the spiritual laws and words about which he teaches.
  • He lives a lavish lifestyle from the gifts of others, given for the work of God.
  • He claims revelations from God without authentication.
  • He preaches different doctrines from those written in the Scripture.
  • He claims he is a god and equal to the God of the Bible, part of the Godhead itself.
The warnings about and tests to expose false prophets are found in the Scriptures. How does Kenneth Copeland stand the Biblical test:
Matthew 7:15-23; 24:23-27
2 Corinthians 11, 12, 13
Galatians 1:6-9
2 Timothy 3
2 Peter - the entire letter
1 John 4:1-6
Jude 17-23

"The movement [Word-Faith] closely resembles some of the destructive greed sects that ravaged the early church. Paul and other apostles were not accommodating to or conciliatory with the false teachers who propagated ideas like that in their day. They identified them as dangerous false teachers and urged Christians to avoid them. "
