| I have my own religious belief, what right do Christians have to tell me I am wrong? |
|
Christians have no right to tell you that you are wrong in and of themselves. But they are commanded in their belief to reveal the standards on which their beliefs are based. If what they believe is correct, and what another person believes is different from that, then the person is wrong in their belief. It is not the Christian who is the judge of the right or the wrong, but the doctrines and structure of their belief that determines the correctness of what a person believes. If Christians had only their own thoughts or feelings to use as the standard of comparison, then the result would be an assortment of varying and conflicting measurements as to the value of another religious belief. However, the standard for the Christian is that which is taught in the Bible and what is believed to have been revealed by God in that Scripture. The criteria which the Christian applies against all other religious beliefs is outside of the person and is based on the authority of the Bible and the revelation of God that is contained in it. Christians are commanded to make their faith known to others and to offer a defense of their beliefs when questioned or charged with error. Once they have stated their position, the Christian believes that God has the ultimate responsibility to bring about a sense of agreement with their position. One should not be offended that the Christian has a different belief, or that they express that belief. Instead, if one has a different belief, they should use the testimony of the Christian as a point in which to evaluate the validity of what one believes. It is the position of the Christian that within the pages of the Bible is found all religious truth and that religions that differ from that truth are false. If that position is true, then it would be imperative that those who believe differently should inquire as to whether that is the case. by Gary A.
